GWH 1/48 USAAF Northrop P-61B Black Widow

Post by Pabbi »

A quick look inside the box :)

I do like the Box Art HQ print included :thumb1:
PE and mask included.
Instructions printed on quality paper and in color.
Overall looks like a quality kit, looking forward to tackle it

My other American choice...I just couldn't resist the eduard kit.

Looks an awesome kit. I'm planning on doing the GWH Fw189 Nachtjäger, and if it's anything like their MiG 29, I will be one very happy modeller. Look forward to following your build :)

That looks like a really nice kit, but excuse my ignorance, what does GWH stand for? I've never heard of that modeling company, but I only started modeling in January of this year.

Cheers,

Great Wall Hobby. They are a new model company out of China. Good kits, but some of their earlier releases had some issues such as their P-61 and MiG-29 9-12. However, they corrected the majority of the issues in those kits and released the corrected kits.

I was going to use the Mr.color paint but it took forever to arrive.
Now finally arrived and I compared it to what I did use...
The Mr.color yellow green os more yellow then Tamiya, and the Mr.color cockpit green is darker then the ModelMaster one.

Looking awesome, mate.

Had similar epm problems with my GWH Fw189, but was lucky as most of them were covered up by additional instruments. One solution that did occur to me might have been to use thinned down filler or Mr Surfacer as the marks inside the fuselage are all framed by the ribbing, creating a natural barrier where it could pool, cover the epm and then self level. Not sure how this would look, though.

Hi Pabbi ,

great build so far , the cokpit is just great full of great little details .

Now about those masks ...yesterday I saw in another thread in this SiG someone with the same issue , those masks are to make a modeler

I thank again for the existence of Eduard and their great masks :-) , these look like card board or something , seems very rigid , but seems that after the prime is ok .

Good luck with your next steps , it is a very nice kit and a great build so far !
Cheers ,
António

thanks, rodrant, UKguyInUSA and AchtungPanzer :)

The decals on, not so many of them, i have seen better decals, had problem with the carrier film on the serial number and the Lady. Tried to cut lines in them with the rescriber and use Humbrol decal fix, that made it a little better and thankfully did not damage the paint.

The mask taken of... and a lot of glue residue was showed, tried to take it of with Revell Color Clean and brush paint some of the damaged area, wish I had used Eduard mask :wall:

Stretch sprue for broken things, the side antenna had 6 attachment points and was difficult to take of the sprue, broke one arm on one side and 2 on the other.

The carpet monster was thirsty, happy it did not go on the P-61
