I would like to see an "other conflicts" Build. Since WW2 there has been countless small wars, conflicts and police actions around the world. Falklands, Aden, Grenada and the Suez all spring to mind. This could be anything from Helicopter and Vehicles used in Northern Ireland during the troubles. To Aircraft and ships used in Falklands war. And that's not counting other colonial actions in Africa, middle east, Asia and south America.

How about something to do with trucks...? Plenty of people on here build tanks, aircraft, bikes, all sorts of cars, floaty things, sci-fi stuff, figures, etc... But with the exception of tiking, no one usually builds truck models. Everyone could join and you're practically certain that anyone who participates is going to be out of his comfort zone with this one.
The only problem is people don't want to pay money to build a model they don't want. I am trying to take the approach of a theme that anyone can join with their chosen field. Best if people can do what they want to ensure participation.
Thinking of it, I guess you might be right. Scratch the idea... Having said that though, I'd like to second your idea that there should be at least one non-military GB/SIG.

Ideas I second:
Recon/Spec. Ops. GB

Korean War GB

Homeland GB(Anything that hails from your home country.)

And perhaps a What-If or Kitbash/Scratchbuild GB!!!

Oh - an aerobatics/stunt group Gb would also be great!

Maybe a SIG of a particular aircraft/veh along the lines of the Tiger 1 SIG. It may be a bit exclusive, but I think that's the idea with SIGs.

I'd like to suggest (Not being selfish honest) an Eastern front Sig possibly based around the Battle of Kursk, this could be either land or land & air based

There again to make it something different and test skills it could be the siege of Stalingrad in Winter that would be out of many comfort zones myself included.

How about an Artillery sig- this is one arm of military modelling which is rarely visited

How about an underwater sig, anything goes as long as it's underwater

What about a "Big boy" sig, a baseboard size is decided ie 6ft x 4ft and then any period land conflict you like is modelled.

Sorry , that's all I can think of at present bt will be back if I can think of any others worth a thought,

Steve

I would like to suggest the following, they could be GBs or SiGs as required

Carrier aircraft, any era or nation
V/Stol aircraft, military or civilian. (PS seen any nice Harrier kits?)
Desert Warfare, any vehicle or aircraft used in actual combat in a desert environment
Floating things, anything that is designed to float on or submerge under water. (Can include seaplanes if required)
IDF/IAF stuff, unpolitically correct atm but who cares?
Big Bear, anything Soviet/Russian, as above really!
Special Forces, any aircraft, vehicle, ship or figure connected with special force operations.

This is added as an afterthought for a Sig, but I may be a little late

A P-51 build, any mark or theater, in honor of Paul. Yes I said it too!

Was looking forward to Coen's "Cheesy Car's of the 80's" GB a while back. Sadly that one didn't go ahead. Maybe we could have something like that as a non-military GB...?

Love the Rising Sun idea :th:

Maybe a Naval Aircraft GB? - nice and open with lots of options
Ship Gb would be cool too, would definately be up for that.
Maybe a WWII Bombers GB?
How about a Luftwaffe GB? Any plane flown by the Luftwaffe, Prototypes includes. They did make some very interesting planes, you have to admit and it would be a GB without Mustangs, Spits etc, something different :)

Well here's my two cents.

1: Modern Conflict GB. I'm into modern military more so than WW2.

2: Space/Sci-Fi. This would give me a good excuse to but some BSG kits :D

3: I'd like to do a motorcycle SiG. Just don't know how much interest there would be.

4: I think a Gunpla SiG would be really interesting and would change things up a bit.

5: Personal idea would be an "X" MPH/KPH SiG. Anything that can achieve a certain speed. Bikes, cars, aircraft, etc.
I build bad models so you can feel good about yourself! :th:

Homeland GB: Any subject and any type of model as long as it origins from your own country! This would be my favourite!

Recon SiG: Everything that is meant to do recon (special forces, Recon variants of any aircraft, scouting vehicles)

Movie stars GB: anything from the movies.

Swedish SiG: Anything from the Swedish armed forces

Trainer aircraft SiG: Any aircraft thats designed for training and pilot schooling.

Smaller conflict GB: Anything from smaller conflicts like Falkland Wars, Cashmir, Panama, Congo, Korea, Sovjet vs Afghanistan etc.

How about a charity GB?

Pick a local/national/international charity. Or we could pick a cause (say, cancer) and everyone donates to the local/national organization that covers the area their in (so in my case, using the cancer example, my donation would go to the Cancer Society of Canada, yours would go to it's equivalent in your country).

Pick whatever kit you want, any subject, any scale.

You donate the value of the kit to your chosen charity. 30 (dollar/euro/pound) kit equals a 30 (dollar/euro/pound) donation.

If you can spare the money for simple amusement (sometimes the hobby feels like way more than that, but that's all that it is) you should be able to dig a little deeper and help out for the same amount.

-What if!

-Middle east!
(Anything used in Middle east conflicts from the 50ies until present)
The Pacific!
(No further explanation needed)
The Cold War!

All the suggestions are fine with me , I just think the GBs should be categorized so figures are not judged in the same way a armoured vehicle or airplane is judged. My two cents.

I have revised my suggestions again(!) thanks to other peoples ideas. I'm sorry for the repeat but I get so inspired from this forum!

Homeland GB: Any subject and any type of model as long as it origins from your own country! Time to do your favorite vehicle from your own hood! Also leaves room for alot of subjects. I think its good with themes that doesn't require you to buy stuff that you'd never get from the beginning.

Recon SiG: Everything that is meant to do recon (special forces, Recon variants of any aircraft, scouting vehicles). Think this could show some really interesting and rare subjects!

Movie stars GB: anything that has a defined role in a movie. Opens up for some scratch building and getting people out of their comfort zone yet not demanding a raid on the LHS.

Trainer aircraft SiG: Any aircraft thats designed for training and pilot schooling. Familiar, yet different :)

Smaller conflict GB: Anything from smaller conflicts like Falkland Wars, Cashmir, Panama, Congo, Korea, Sovjet vs Afghanistan etc. Fun to do some interesting and rare nationalities and funky schemes.

Diorama GB: All subjects as long as its in a context/scene. (for example i see a ship in the water as context :) ). A chance for modelers to try new things and maybe do a dio for the first time.

Showtime SiG: Show/decorative schemes. Fun to see some colors, again, familiar but different :)

I love this thread and I love to see the different ideas. Its really inspirational.

I'll try to give some ideas too:
Diorama GB: it would be very helpful because of various techniques to use.
Operation Husky GB: it would be an interesting D-Day alternative.
Napoleonic Wars GB: because...why not?!
Big Naval GB: only ships in 1:350 or bigger
