KC-135A Stratotanker in 1/72 scale by AMT/Ertl

Post by DBMiller »

What have I learned from this build?

.Metallic finishes are not as hard as I feared but you need a VERY smooth finish. I will also try a different sealer than Pledge; it leaves the metal finish a bit plastic looking. Maybe Tamiya clear coat will work. Also, finger prints are an issue, so gloves or a towel for handling are a must!

.Big kits are really hard to handle with out snapping off bits or scratching it while re-positioning it for painting or decaling.
I taped a cardboard sleeve over the tail probe for much of the build to prevent the inevitable! I broke off the nose gear instead. :bash:

.Most important of all; while understanding I have a long way to go to reach the skill level of some of you (and I'm 55 so running out of time!) I can still be very happy with what I do now! I like the way this came out, and that's not a bad finish!

So, here it is:

Very nice work! And what do you mean "running out of time"? I turned 60 this year and came back to the hobby last year about this time after a 40 year absence. I would be happy to be working at your level. Keep it up and happy new year! :cheers2: :cheers2:
