1/35 IDF Huey...Finished

Post by fightnjoe »

Yes, you read right.

This is a first. In 35 years I have not even wanted to attempt a Helicopter. After much discussion with a very good buddy, I said I would.

This is entered into an Israeli Defense build on another site. It will be OOB as I see it now.

So here it is. The boxart.

Well after quite a while here is a small update.

The instructions start out working on the interior of the airframe. The pilot and copilot stations as well as the troop station. Going just a bit different than I normally do I started by painting individual parts before gluing them in.

After really two days of on and off work here it sits.

Re: 1/35 IDF Huey...Starting the Fuse

Post by fightnjoe »

A quick update.

For those of you who look to build this kit. Word of warning. The fuse halves do not match up right. If possible also get a different instrument panel.

The IP is photoetch and really is miserable. It is to be honest one of the worst IP's I have dealt with.

Image

Also my experience with this kit is now a bit tainted as I had to fight hard to get the sides to match up and still it left a major seam on the top and bottom.

Image
Image

Even with that though I did manage to get the fuse together (somewhat) and can proclaim some progress.

Image
Image
Image
Image

There we are. I hope to have a little more done this week.

CJ I did use filler but there were a couple of panels that I just was not sure of. The panel lines on this thing are like canyons. Someone with better knowledge of Hueys will do a much better job on this one. I am not sure I am doing it justice.

It looks fabulous
You did a great job on pre shade and paint
The engine cowling is removable (on the 1:1) and should should have a seam and the door opening has rails that the door slides on. I don't really see any other seams out of order
I did mine much darker in Vietnam era paint and hid everything...you accented your lines superbly and painted it light so every seam shows
The fit of these kits is questionable and many have given up and bailed on their builds
You done good :thumb2:

Hope I didn't sound critical Joe, I was just interested to find out why you had left some of the gaps .

Scott thanks for the info. More that I did not know about this subject.

CJ no worries. I did not take it as being critical at all. Just a statement of what you (and I) see. I have been pretty critical of myself all the way through on this one. There have been points that I really wonder why I chose one way or chose not to go another. I was looking forward to this build because of the definition of the panels but to be honest it is one of the points that I am looking at now and wondering why I did not tone them down.

Many many thanks for looking in and the comments.

A long time ago I decided that the best way for me to improve is to ask for all comments, critiques, and criticism. In doing that I open myself up to many things but I would say 99% has been good. The comments I have received have helped me in many ways. I look at my builds and see the good and the bad. Most of the time comments that I read that state the bad I expect as I saw them as well.

I am grateful to all for the kind words and the information shared. It helps. It helps a lot.

Re: 1/35 IDF Huey...Almost There

Post by fightnjoe »

Well folks this is my "Almost" post.

The build is almost done. And this time I have a new toy to play with. I have a 36" cube photo/light booth. Although with this set of pics the same issues are still there.

Pics

To be honest the build looks decent. I like the colors and I like the way the paint went. I do not however like the photos as the color is washed out and the snow white backdrop looks like a light grey. I am at a loss as to what to do with this but I keep trying. I have tried exposure, lighting, and different positioning of the lights. They all seem to come out the same.

Ahh well....rant suppressed for now.

Re: 1/35 IDF Huey...Almost There

To be honest the build looks decent. I like the colors and I like the way the paint went. I do not however like the photos as the color is washed out and the snow white backdrop looks like a light grey. I am at a loss as to what to do with this but I keep trying. I have tried exposure, lighting, and different positioning of the lights. They all seem to come out the same.
have you tried using a pale blue background for your photos? the white is probably effecting the 'lighter' colours?
