Chiefs Trumpeter 1/48 vampire FB.mk.9

Post by chief5437 »

My second entry, just to have something to turn to if the lightning starts getting out of hand, lol!

Box art

Three sprues, plus one clear. (Haven't unwrapped it yet!)

Image

Trumpy instructions, like dragon, can be a bit quirky, but these look fine at first glance!

One,

Two,

Decal options, undecided so far!
No after market for this, straight up old school build, lol!

Cheers guys :cheers2:

Hi guys, haven't had much bench time lately, so I thought I'd start on this to get back in the saddle!

First stages cleaned up ready for assy.

Image

Done! Lol! I'll get some paint on these before I finish assy.

Image

Next stage ready to go.

Image

And done.

Image

Cockpit painted, and installed. Along with wheel wells, and jet nozzle.

Image

As I won't be using the drop tanks, I've filled the locating holes in the wing.

Canopy masked, upper fuselage and booms fitted. That's the main assy done!

Image

As you can see, it's quite a simple kit, so doesn't take long to build oob. Fit is excellent, just a tiny bit of filler needed, around the intakes and boom joints. Also, I filled the nose with lead shot to keep it on the deck.

That's all for now, on with some painting next, thanks for looking chaps! :thumb1: :cheers2: :th:

Been a while since I updated this. Due to it turning into one of three builds that have had a spanner thrown into the works! Lol!

Started on the nav lights, cut out a section of wing, added clear sprue 'bulbs' painted with tamiya clear red/green. Then I used Krystal Klear to build up the lenses.

Image

Image

Then I made a pitot tube from brass tube.

Image

And that's when things went a bit wrong!!

Unmasked the canopy, to find this little mess!! :wall:

Image

Not sure what's caused this? The canopy is only glued on with klear!? Tried all sorts to clean it up but nothing worked. To that end, I decided on a canvas canopy cover and FOD guards.

Somehow I've lost half the pics I took, but here's one of the FOD guards and wheel chocks being made from sprue and plasticard.

Image

And a jump forward to the end result!

Image

More pics to come in the reveal section. Cheers guys! :th:

Hey chief

Cool aircraft and a great build. :thumb2: :thumb2:

Clever solution with the navigation lights.

Bad luck with the canopy, but you came up with a solution for that aswell. 8-)
