Italeri F-104G/S Starfighter

Post by ggionet »

Hello everyone. This is my first attempt at doing a Kit Review. I am new to the hobby and normally would not jump into the deep end like this but I absolutely love this kit. Feel free to comment or offer suggestions for improvments. Now on with the review.

Let's start with the box. I thinks the front graphics are very well done.

The kit comes with an excellent photographic reference manual.

And now we come to the decals and boy, are there a lot of decals. Enough for 10 versions

Next item will be the instruction manual.

Image

A view of the sprues, photo etch and on the bottom right, a list of the paint colours required. They have an alpha character that is used in the instructions to show paint colour required, The F.S. number of the colour and the Italeri paint code for that colour.

Image

I will cut the instruction review a little short. There are 47 pages and I think it would get boring. I realy like the CAD view that is provided. Clearly shows the part and their proper placement.

Here are the over views of the different versions that can be built.

OK, now let's look into the box. A lot of plastic and WOW, look at the big box on the right. Probably full of goodies.

Image

No, just a void filler. Must be compensating for something. On to the sprues. Sprue A main body. I used the Vallejo paint bottle to give you a reference to how big this plane will be.

Sprue B and a few close up to show the great detail

Sprue C

Sprue D the heart of the beast.

Image

Sprue D. This sprue comes as a matched set.

Image

Sprue F is the clear parts. The canopies are amazingly clear with no seam lines.

Image

Here is the phote etch part. I don't have a lot of background in judging this but it seems extremely thick.

Image

Well that's it for the review. Hope it has been helpfull to you. I will put this beauty away until I have researched the subject and learned a lot of skills.

I have a few other projects on the go at the moment. Will do a lot of reading and try to come up with a theme before I build.

I'm very curious to see this one as well. I've got a 1/72 Heller Starfighter kit from the seventies that I'm about to build to gain airbrush experience.
