Jon's Revell 1/32 Mosquito Mk IV

Post by jbellos1 »

This is the kit I'm building

Original 1971 kit, updated molds in 1992, snd reboxed in 2014.

I built the 1971 kit way back in 1971 with my Dad and ever since the shape of this aircraft has been pleasing to my eye.

Ok, first the cockpit...always first.

Quick update on my 1/32 big Mossie. I know some are 95% built already, but this one will take a bit longer to build.

Anyway...

Primed

Image

Dry fit was excellent

Image

Image

Model Master Enamel RAF Interior Green 2062
Ammo Red Brown Shadow 912 for the leather
AK RLM 75 for the dark grey on the stick

Image

Detailed up and glued
Image

IP looks good for a basic mold only

Image

Image

Fits nicely

You know you're building a plane when you need all this stuff just for the first six steps! Love it!

Thanks for looking

Freaking huge!!!
It doesn't look all that bad of a kit either. The truth of the tale will be in the fits though.
Still, the parts look good.

Funny I just got the same kit the other day. It looks like a good kit and it is especially well priced. Look forward to seeing how you build it.

OK - time to wrap this one up...

One huge update.

Time to put the cockpit in and fuselage together

Image

Bit of detail painting...probably won't see it.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Lot's of glazing...yikes!

Image

Image

The masking was done by hand and took a long time...I forget how long, so don't ask.

Image

And yes, that's Humbrol Maskol...nuff said.

Image

Image

Image

Worked quite well.

Image

Oil wash

Image

Image

Image

Image

A little of this...

Image

A little of that...

Image

Wings! Big ones too!

Image

Image

Yep...a giant

Image

Image

Image

Landing gear time!

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

And the tail wheel assembly.

Image

Bits and bobs.

Image

Nacelles

Image

Yea...this was fun. haha.

Image

This was a beast every step of the way

Image

Like this joint.

Image

This joint was as bad as the rest, but turned out great!

Image

And these two too

Image

Image

With the above shot, you get the idea of the work involved cleaning up the joints, then vertical stabilizer joint was worked hard.

Terrible fitting thing!

Image

Image

Getting there...gigantic bugger

Image

Oh yea, the nacelles fit was horrible.

Image

Image

Image

After a lot of sanding, it was time for the primer coat and then ocean grey. And I mean A LOT of sanding, the fits were not good.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Straight on to the camo, RAF dark green

Image

Think it came out as well as could be expected.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Right, on to the markings.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Props in place

Image

Image

Image

Position lights...drilled out to represent bulbs, painted with acrylic clear red and clear green

Image

Image

And looking very much the part

Great work Jon! Like the detail in the position lights. Saw the technique in the AK FAQ book and still wanted to try it. :th: :th:
