1/32 wingnut wings Rumpler C.IV early

Post by strawnobi »

Hello guys!! I've recently dug my teeth into this guy. I have to say that Wingnut wings is amazing. It is challenging though. A couple of firsts for me in this kit. It was the first time I attempted wood effects and it is coming along nicely. Also I will be using EZ line for the rigging. I can't seem to find microtubing for the turnbuckles in Japan though. Anyway, I hope you enjoy my progress so far. I am happy with the results to this point. I'm sorry the photos aren't in sequential order. As always, comments, questions, critiques are always welcome. Happy modeling!!

Wood effects were done in several steps:
1. Primer
2. Mr. Color Sandy Brown. The Prop was masked and the dark stripes are MR. Color Mahogany.
3.Tamiya Enamel brown was streaked on for the grain effect. Excess was wiped off with enamel thinner.
4. It was then painted Mr. Color clear yellow. It gives a kind of polyurethane effect.

I can't claim credit for the technique. Several tutorials are available on You Tube which shows similar techniques. Artist oils can also be used instead of enamel. They probably streak a little better. But this worked ok here.

Here is just a small update. I've painted the wings. I had to repaint the stab because I painted it upside down. No worries though. The paint came off perfectly with some windex. I've found that if you use mr. surfacer and mr. color black for your preshade, if you use Tamiya or another acrylic as your bas coat, if you have to remove it, drop it in some windex. It will removie the acrylic but leave your primer and pre shade. It's a neat trick. Anyway, the cabanes and wind screen are dry fit. The tail struts are installed. The lower wings are only dry fit at this point too. More to come soon.

Well guys, I got a lot more done in the past 4 or five days. Basically, I've been dedicating every spare moment to this kit over the past week. It is such a page turner. Anyway, I've got it to the point where its ready for rigging. But I'm waiting for Ez line to come in the mail. The rigging on the tail was done with stretched sprue.

Attaching the wings was actually quite easy. I'm amazed at the fit in this kit. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the update. Let me know if you have any questions about how I'm doing something and I will help if I can. Happy Modeling!!!

Oh man, wonderful to see all this being done. I just added two WnW kits to the stash and this has given me inspiration!

Awesome wood effects. The engine and that crazy exhaust collector...fandamulous!

Thanks for your comment. I finished it a couple of weeks back. There are some photos of the diorama in the air gallery section. I kept it simple and added a few figures with it. Hope your WNW builds go well. They are fun.

excellent work mate. I feel inspired to attempt one of those kits. Im fortunate to live only an hour or twos drive from Sir Peter Jacksons WW1 aircraft museum at Omaka, I might take a drive a pick up a kit there as well as have another look around.

I bought this kit on Amazon Japan. But even there they sell out quickly. They can be bought directly from Wingnut wings. But, you have to deal with import cost and such. I'll be interested to see your build. I really want to build the Albatross. But I'll have to wait for awhile.

These kits are the epitome of deluxe. if the engine could actually fire up, they would fly. I am sure of it.

That looks amazing. The wood work is just beautiful, that's a very cool effect you have created there. The machine guns are awesome too.

The whole thing - just... WOW man. Superb.
