Accurate Miniatures Ilyushin IL-2 Sturmovik - Winterized 1:48

Post by heel »

Hi all,

For this GB I will tackle the flying tank, gussied up in winter camouflage. This kit is from 1997 and has a reputation as a difficult build, but there are some internet references I will lean on to guide. First, the box and sprues:

I have this kit as well, will be following closely so I know what to look out for when I get around to mine. Always had a soft spot for that thing :th:

Alright folks I think I've done enough for a small update. The cockpit/radiator is assembled and sprayed with Stynlrez black. I forgot to take photos of the tank that sits behind the pilot.

There are a handful of EPMs on the side walls. After some test fitting only two should be visible with a flashlight and magnifying glass, so I took a halfhearted approach to cleaning those up. My main focus is the finish of the outside and a potential small diorama. If still noticeable I may add some scratch details to cover up.

Some micro mask in the dials.

Looks great bud. :th: :th: :th:
I wouldn't worry too much about the EPMs, they're almost completely invisible once the cockpit is built up and the canopy is on.
Even if left open I doubt you'll see any of them.

Thanks Mike. Appreciate you stopping by and any guidance along the way.

Here on the east coast of the U.S. we have a large snow storm to use for modeling time.

How'd this get here?

I will try something different by using the decal seatbelts. Is this how it's done? Not sure... Traced the outline on a post-it, then some Tamiya tape over top and a fresh blade. We'll see how it turns out.

Made a custom blend of Akan grey-green.

That's where I stand now. Next up some washes and detail painting after the gloss coat dries.

Not bad so far! Interesting color wash you are using. I've never seen celery used that way before! ;)

On we go with some more traditional weathering. This can't be a flying tank and not be dirty, right?

That's all for now. Thanks for looking.
