Pauls's Tamiya 1/24 Eggenberger Texaco Ford RS500 Sierra Cosworth Gr.A

Post by Paul »

So had this kit for some time now one of my favourite cars form the 80's

Heres my in box review of it, ignore the bit were i thought cosworth was a german company.

This is the car ill be using for reference.

And this webpage http://www.speedhunters.com/2012/07/up- ... p-a-great/

Image

Ive still got some extras on the way for it, carbon decal, antenna and seatbelt too, ill update the pics when they arrive

Battered box on the kit, water damaged as are the decals so i bought a new shank set, the kit is band new and perfect though

I started on the chassis, including the drivetrain and suspension etc, using alclad primer for the black parts (gloss vallejo black for the cv boots etc) and various alclad metals for the pother parts. These were all then given a oil wash and glued in place

My First ATB update on this build

The standard roll cage was a bit lacking and reference picture showed it to be missing a lot of extra bars, so using online pics i added the missing bars and painted it gloss black to match the gloss black cabin i painted in the body colour. I also had to mask of the fuel tank which was a real pig, it was then airbrushed in flat alclad aluminium.

Al the white bits are the plasticard rod i added to the roll cage. I also painted the dashboard and masked and painted the door cards.

Next up i got the resin hose connectors and braided hoses installed and painted the connectors alclad chrome then used tamiya clear red and blue to show the anodised finish.

I then got the body prepped, all seams sanded and the whale tail spoiler glued in place which was a pig, ill leave off the lower spoiler for now. I primed it in alclad microfilmer primer, this will be left for a couple days then, flatted back and then the body colour sprayed on.

hello, Paul, nice job so far...as usual

just a quick question, i suppose that now you spray all your car bodies with your big spragun what allows you to cover much larger pattern?

Thanks and good continuation

Used the zero paints 1K clear on this one, a lot less stinky and harmful than the 2K.

Looks like a good result, we will see though

It really does make me think my next airbrush needs to be a mini sprayer like the RG3, especially to spare the HP-CS from the clear coats etc. Maybe a TRN 2.

And just from seeing the nice even coats...

So started flocking the seat after decaling the back with the carbon effect decal

Using watered down pva, the flock was sprinkled over then when dry the excess removed

Dashboard was done

And everything inside the car, still the belts to do and a couple other things

Now the decals, the kit ones were destroyed so i bought some shunko ones, when i put one on the car yesterday it looked too orangey pink, so no good. The cars livery was red on black. Sods law the decals are out of production, so the only solution, find one on eBay and message the seller asking for a pic of the decals. found one with what look like perfect decals and had to pay £64 for another kit lol. Not really a problem as i wanted another of this kit to do a different version so as long as the decals are good i should be ok
