Wayne's Belkits Skoda Fabia S2000

Post by waynos »

Good evening all,

After recently upgrading my old skoda fabia to a new monte carlo edition :th: , I got caught up in a fabia whirlwind and purchased my second car kit in the form of the belkits skoda fabia s2000. :thumb1: my first kit is the mobius batman tumbler that is sat in the stash still.

This will be my first ever car build so I shall get a more detailed review completed over the next couple of days

In the mean time, here are some clips of the car intesting and action.

So yesterday I managed to get some time to take some sprue shots. First impressions are the kit looks well detailed and there is no evidence of any flash. The inclusion of PE and fabric for the seatbelts/wheel holders is a great inclusion.

Here are the shots:

SO that concludes the sprue shots. Also, I had to go out and add a few more paints to my collection as there a few I was missing. Always a good excuse to take my own Fabia out for a spin! :thumb2:

Today I managed to dry-fit some parts before spraying them up. I must say, this kit is very well engineered and if the rest of the build continues along this path I will certainly be investing in a few of their other kits as they have made some great subjects so far and some of the upcoming releases look great too! This is my first ever car build and I must say it really is enjoyable!

And here it is as it stands after painting and glueing. I am not too happy with the suspension spring quality of painting, but that was the best I could achieve. Happy to hear any advise on how any of you car builders out there on how you get them painted up?

The kit was primed in Ultimate balck primer and then the colours are the Tamiya paint range as highlighted in the instructions.

Thanks for stopping by!

Interior details are nearly all complete. Just need to add the seats and spare wheels before fitting the roll cage. Maybe a little while before the next update as I am waiting for the flocking to arrive. I have also discovered the wheela are able to be turned left to right so that it can be posed with wheels turned!

Nice work. It's looking great.

I too bought this kit about a month after I bought my Monte Carlo. I was hoping that the kit could have been modified to make it look like a standard non-rally Fabia. But I think it would be impossible.
My real one looks exactly like yours, so you obviously have great taste :D

So i have now added half of the roll cage and whikst waiting for the flocking to arrive, I have made the seatbelts. It took a while, but I found using small strips of double sided tape to fix the folded straps down sped things up. This made it easier for placing and getting the PE parts to sit right too. They are not fixed onto the seats properly yet, just placed to see the effect.

Here is the stage where the Fabia sits now.... Flocking will be here tomorrow hopefully!

Well the flocking finally arrived which meant I could get back to the bench and crack on with the fabia.

The flocking was an easy job. I watered down some pva and painted it on the are i wanted flocking, and using a sieve I tapped the flocking onto the seat. I concentrated on one side at a time and then after a few minutes pressed the flocking gently before tapping off any excess.

I would recomment doing it on a piece of paper so that any left over flocking can be collected and funelled back into the container.

So here are the seats flocked and seatbelts attached:

After this I cracked on with the roll cage. This was a bit of a pig as the top section had warped slightly so required super gluing one piece at a time, but I got there eventually!

Here are the results:

Now its onto the shell. Firstly it was coated in Ultimate balck primer, followed by a layer of Ultimate white. Once this had dried after about 15 minutes, I used a Ultimate buffer to smooth it over ready for the second coat. This worked well as the second layer was much smoother. It was then left to dry before masking off ready to spray the black sections.

Next up is clear coat and decals.

Just realised I hadnt updated the forum for a while. The skoda is now finished. The decals were a challenge and a half to get them to conform to the curves and sharp edges. If anyone is building this themselves, i would recommemd painting the green on rather than relying on the decals. Having said that, I am happy with how this one turned out, especially for my first ever car build!
