Tamiya 1/48 F-16 C/N Aggressor - Finished

Post by keithinflorida »

A bit of a late entry. But I'll give it a go.
After building a few complete dogs over the past couple of months this is an absolute delight.
Seems like if you cut all the pieces off the sprue, threw then in the box and gave it a good shake the model would come out perfectly built!!!!
I'm building OOB with the only aftermarket being an Eduard Canopy Mask. I plan on building the Blue Aggressor base at Nellis.

Here's how I'm hoping she'll look when finished. Taken at Nellis back in 2009

I'm going to have the canopy closed so the decal seatbelts won't look too bad.

Still learning about washes, but I think the wheel-well looks okay so far.

Progress so far

Time for a small update. Construction is pretty much done. Such a joy to build. I've primed and am about to start painting:
Dry fit of the indercarrage

The jetpipe is still a work in progress. It looks okay but not quite there yet.

Primed using Tamiya fine primer. It seems to give a very smooth surface for the paint.

Metal pitot probe is on order from flea-bay as mine disappeared sometime during the build !!!!

The paint is now pretty much done, just a couple of overspray areas to sort out before clear coats, decals, weathering, matt coat etc etc

I've used Tamiya Acrylics. I've mixed The blues myself as they don't do the exact colors required

I cant believe it but the panel fading is complete and I think I'm actually going to get this finished in time !!!!!
The final clear coat is on and I'm now just waiting for the MicroSol/Set to arrive from ebay and the monumental decaling session can begin.

Thanks for the comments.
Next will definitely be another Aggressor. Maybe a Navy F-14 or F-18.

Decision Made. Nothing by Aggressors in my near future.
Nervous about tackling my first 1/72 model. Really hope my eyes are up to it!

The new pitot probe arrived from China today. I'm very happy. I'll now definitely be able to finish by the end of the month.

Finished. It's by no means perfect and there are many things I'll do differently next time (and there will be a next time).
This was an amazing kit to build. I'll post more photos on the 'Final Reveal' page. But for now I've got to go to work :violin:

Arghhh - Just noticed that the probe on the fin is missing !!!!! Time to stretch some sprue..............
