"self- recovery" cables

Post by privatepete »

Hi this is how I make my cables, first off tow cables are a misnomer... they're more correctly called "self- recovery" cables .To tow a 60-ton tank you need 4 cables,2 vehicles, 1 to tow, the other as "hold-back" vehicle.

I don't known if everyone is aware that German tank cables had a LEFT hand twist (so if you are making or own run the drill in revere)

The tool I use .
Cordless drill ,pliers, cooper jewelry wire 0.3,0.4,0.0.6 0.8,1.0 mm, bent paper clip
Cut a length you need, thread it through the eyelet ,hold the two ends with the pliers, pull the trigger, twist to your own specification .
You can use then for rope as well.
!/35 Tank Cables.
Panzer III IV 0.6 -07 mm.
Panthers/Tigers 0.6- 0.9 mm (The Panther had 3 cables a 0.5 mm track changing cable).
US/British 0.5-0.6 mm.
Russian 0.8-1.1 m
Hope this makes sense and is helpful.

More realistic cable I believe. Haven't done it myself, but should be do able using thin wire.
