[LWS] Scheaper can I build this in this GB?

Post by InitialProduction1 »

Well this is what I want to do for my first build on this site, wife bought this for me at Christmas when this first came out. Rivet counters road my ass about this kit, saying it was the worst kit out there and how I should get rid of it, that's why I don't post pic anymore, funny. Anyway I'm going to give this a shot.

The biggest point the rivercounters have is the lenght of the thing
It should have been a few milimeters longer

The other LWS kits are a little bigger but also double the price of this kits
Wich are from AFV club if i remember it correctly
So when i bought mine i thought the heck with thise extra mm
I will just pay less and get a second kit along with this one

And these kits aren't that bad if you ask me
The interior is a bit basic
The rear of the interior anyway the instrument/control panel and seats look pretty good
And it is a enjoyable build aswell ,the fit of the parts is good and you get enough details and surfaces to play around with the weathering
So for their price they are good kits

Have fun building

Just to make sure, you should ask if this is allowed in the build because it's an amphibious vehicle and I don't think they are included in the GB .

Thanks gaz45 & Lysus, for looking in hope I can get decent photos of the build. Thanks MarkVerpoge that's exactly right, they killed my MOJO on that kit. thanks gustavlekstal, I hope the net will fit, it was one of the things the counters said it was too long, the tracks are my fault, there the early mid, and the reference calls for late, don't care, they would use what was available. Hole crap Schoof who do I ask?.

Sadly I'm going to say it'll have to be a no on this, its a tracked vehicle and as per rules, only ships.boats, subs, float planes and helicopters able to land on water count

Initial Production, you could do a similar loophole diorama build as another member is doing with a rowboat in it and this in it ;) :nena:

As always happy modeling and keep sticking styrene.

Hahaha Thanks guys, yea I've been wanting an excuse to build the LWS thing forever, but I do have a LCVP. Guess I'll look for another reason later for my LWS. Again thanks.

Clay Dude,

I sort of sounds like this kit will be in the stash or on the shelf of doom a long time. There is no magic time or special reason needed to start any build ;).
The way it reads to me is that you have been looking for an out and not to do it from even before you posted the first topic in this thread. Sorry to be a bit harsche and direct about it. The best way to get back the mojo you lost over this build, is to just start it despite what anybody else thinks, says or comments about it. I have never built a model with the intention to please others. Just keep this in mind It's your model, your build, your time and effort and it will be on display in your man cave or house. Okey, It may not be the best possible kit out there for this particular subject. The after market may not be totally historically correct. In my humble opinion who gives a :fly: offensive word   . For example I'm currently building an Italeri 1:35 Willys MB Jeep for the PTO GB. Looking at the detail of this 1979 initial release kit, Ya it's no way neer being historically and periode correct in comparison to lets say the Bronco Jeeps that came out in 2012. Could I have listend to the rivet counters and not build it just on the basis of there OCD approach to model building. Sure, of course and without a doubt. Did I NOPE, why you may ask?? Easy I just want to build it into the best possible kit with the means at my disposal. Was the initial kit filled with flaws O YA. Was there any after market for that specific model NOPE DUH :wall:... Will it put my modeling skills to the test and will it be a challenging build YOU BET YA. Bust the most important question is yet to come... Am I enjoying building that dog of a kit?? Hands down, honest to god, you bet your life on it. Why I hear you ask?? Because all of the negative aspects of the kit I just pointed out are putting me and my modeling skills to the test. And THAT is and should be the only motivation any modeler should need to build whatever they want.

As always happy modeling and keep sticking styrene.

Ya your right, I got so many models built, and not finished, just because of Rivet counters, I've even change a paint scheme, because of a mister know it all. That's why I like it hear no BS, just builds. :D

Yeah, I'm not against building for accuracy, but in the end it's your time and money, and your enjoyment. I like that you can go whichever way you like in this hobby.

My dad did model trains, brass HO engines. He would do commission work for some side money and sometimes he had to spend weeks going through books and hours at libraries looking through microfilms for archival pictures for some clients to match car numbers and get engine details right (it's not like a GS-4 looked exactly like another GS-4, each engine had its own history of modifications). Life without the internet, kids.

Some people were hell bent on the perfect miniature train or box car. "This number on this car must be scratched in this way for this year on this rail line."

When it came time for his own stuff, he just did as he pleased. Scale modeling is freedom, do whatcha' like.
