Primer for resin kits.

Have just bought some resin kits from Salute at Ex Cel this past Saturday. Can anyone suggest a good primer? Also is it imperative that I scrub away at the models with soap and water prior to priming?

Yep, give the parts a really good scrub.

Stynlrez/Ultimate primer works well.

Resin parts could have some dirt from the molds , and this I usually wash them with some water and soap ...I'm referring the figure busts , I used the Ultimate /Styrenlez primer in one of my last resin figures build and the result is great !

What kinda soap then ? I work with brass on the railway and use a bathroom cleaner to clean then. Soap can have something in them that leaves a film?

Ordinary washing-up liquid will work just fine.

I use washing up liquid with an art brush and an old tooth brush to give resin parts a good scrubbing. Then I allow the parts to dry thoroughly. After this my primer of choice is automotive acrylic primer from an aerosol. If the surface feels a but coarse I use some fine wet n dry (used dry) and VERY gently go over the primed surface with it. After this I use a soft makeup blusher brush to brush away any residual fine dust.

Peter I was referring to the miniscule amount of fine dust when very gently going over the surface of the primer with fine wet and dry , not bare resin.

Just for the record I do use a proper respirator mask with replaceable filters when rubbing down bare materials and dried paint and also when actually spray painting and air brushing and have done so whilst modelling for the last 60 years plus. So please do not make assumptions about me not taking my health seriously.

Apologies if you feel I was making assumptions, there are some new modellers who are not aware of the needs when using resin kits

Paul, I did actually state that I use a respirator mask when rubbing down materials and dry paint. Dry paint would of course include primer.
