Tim's little Flanker

Hi guys...
A lovely looking plane is the Flanker, this is the Aviatsiya Vienna-morskaovo Flota (Russian Naval) version, the Su-33, the UB varient to be precise.

Here is my review of the kit

I'm going outta 't box on this one..

Seats are ok in this scale..






I'm probably going to use the ip decals on here..




Wheels? Not brilliant but not bad....



Front u/c assembly now, a little bit of PE...

Sometimes it's easier to paint on the sprue, but be afraid if some people think this is "amateur" do what's best for you...



I don't know wether to go with folded wings or not.??



My inclination is folded as it's a naval aircraft but you'd lose them lovely lines...

I would do it wings down. I recently finished the 1/48 Kinetic single seater with the wings folded. Wish I had done it wings down.

Yeah I'm leaning that way, the air brake is probably a more distinctive feature so I'd like that deployed. The wings would only fall off anyway....
What colour did you do your wheel bays? Trumpy's instructions are ambiguous at best.

According to my research on the 27 they are an intermediate blue, I've used vallejo pru blue which looked close enough to my wonky eyes.

Could be John, my scratching around 'tinernet tells me same colour as the undersides and red for the actual main wheel well. That'll do for me...

I've used the supplied decal, it would've been fine but I rushed it and it ended up wonky...

This "quick setting" TET really is quick, not as thin maybe, but quick none the less...



On the to canopy...



I've cut masks using the outside profile of the canopy...



Then I've used them inside the canopy so I can spray the frame..





Frame sprayed...





Wings on..



Canopy on...

So let's chuck on some Ultimate black..



Mottling the undersides, I'm going to try this all over so should prove interesting with the tri-tone camo..











Ok, that went alright, not entirely happy but I'll press on anyway. On to the engines...

A selection of metal colours, I'm not sure if I'll use all of them though...

Those engines look great, Tim. Love the modulation on the camo paint too. That should look amazing after washing.

It's THAT time again



Some time later...... two nights to be precise..





After all that nonsense, I've gone with an oil sludge wash. Home made, just some black and brown oil thinned with odourless sprit.



I'll have to wait till tomorrow to wipe off excess, dried wash.
