Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
This is what I will be doing for the build, and I WILL finish this one, the aircraft mojo is doing really well at the moment with the Viggen finished and the F20 nearing camo.

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
righty right, we start with the cockpit as per usual when it comes to aircraft builds, the cockpit is fairly detailed, but I wish I had gone with a Resin seat and Pilot, plus the rudder pedals seem far to far away for any pilot lol.
It was then primed in Ultimate black primer then painted with Mr Colour 337 which I am more than aware is not the correct colour.
It has now been glossed ready for an accent was then detail painting then dry brushing, I know, Weird order.

in this image you can see the bass coat has been put down, Not correct but it will do for me

In this image you can see that it has been glossed ready for the weathering stage.

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
Well after the HELP OF PAUL in finding the correct colour, I re sprayed the cockpit and fuselage interior and the colour looks so much different and better. I have also washed it and used the decals from the kit and they look VERY good for kit instrument panel decals.
This is the cockpit with moire painting to be done

Top and bottom halves together, The fir of this kit is truly amazing, the engines are also in and yet again, its a beautiful kit, very well engineered.

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
starting to look a bit more like an SU-27. All the flippy flappy bits and tails are on the fit has been good so dar, a few steps to sand here and there but nothing a basic modeller couldn't deal with. The intakes need a fair bit of sanding as well as using a little bit of mr surfacer 1200 in the join, now a flawless join.

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
we have her primed and looking silky smooth with the Ultimate black primer.

then I put down the camo pattern using the AKAN set I got from telford. I was not so keen on the colour, but after Paul told me to go over it again and get a solid colour, the colour looks much better, still need to go over the lights blue and grey.

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
Having realised with the help of PAUL that all the colours on this aircraft are wrong i thought screw it and carried on anyway, I got the paint down and faded the panels. I also decided that the hard edge camo looked a lot better then the feathered edge camo.

nice job there Ivan,
may I ask how the nose cone fit is. I guess it must be really good to leave it off at the painting stage.

I have it glued on now, been leaving it off as I could not find any nose weight, not its weighted and glued on, it fits perfectly, I test fit before hand to make suretommy wrote:nice job there Ivan,

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
got the white areas painted on the SU, used the AKAN white and faded white, cant really see them all that much on camera but it is there
Spent long enough masking it all of, that was not a fun evening but looks good in the end, plenty to do tho, I want this thing to look really weathered and used. so the white wont be all that white in the end

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
So late last night, I spent a lot of time masking all the areas that need to be metal colours, the rear heat shields, and the front cannon area. this was, shall we say NOT FUN. it took a long time.

I used the mr hobby metal colours and then buffed them, then I went over with tamiya titanium, matt aluminium and silver to get some tonal differences. some paint peeling but the underside needs re spraying anyway.

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
to break up the patch work look of the paint work I have gone an mottled the paint work. looks massively over done and HOPEFULLY after gloss coats and dull coats it wont look as intense.

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
Tonight I started a task that I prefer to avoid, I am fine with ID markings and insignia, but when it comes down to stencils, that is where I get really bored, really fast. Then again, I am lucky I did not have as many as Paul did

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
I have given her a wash, the wash looks really good, but my previous gloss coat was not all that good so there are some areas where it has stuck. Not a problem. easy to buff off

Re: Ivan's HobbyBoss SU-27 Flanker B
Tonight I started the dreaded pylons and missiles, Paul has made me aware that the all white missiles are for training, at this point in the build I am fine with that. I want this build finished more than I want it to be accurate.
