Double-sided PE?

Post by ElCapitan »

Is there such a thing as double sided PE? I have pieces that will be seen just as prominently from both sides but only one side has detail on it. Is it something to do with the manufacturing process that they can't etch both sides?

As I understand the process, it would be difficult to etch both sides. A mask is applied to a thin piece of metal and then exposed to acid. The acid eats away any exposed metal. Engravings are made by exposing for a shorter amount of time. I am not 100% this is the method that a professional manufacturer uses, but that is how I would do it. Same way I make PCBs at home.

What normally happens is that pieces that can be viewed from both sides are created as being foldable by the modeller so the etched detail appears on both sides. If that isn't the case then the PE is poorly designed.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.
