Guy's Revell 1/48 Huey "hog"

Post by GuyMac »

Started this kit a few days ago.

Image

It is a rebox of an old 1959 Monogram kit.

But detail looks nice on this one.
However, the fit... sprue goo and putty will be put to good use here.

Anyway some shots...

Tried some heat staining effects with some transparant colors. If it didn't turn out well, it would be hidden anyway so... I've tried :shifty:

At this very moment the sprue goo has been drying for two days now, I'll wait another two to continue on the model.

You got a lot on the go it seems
Good to watch this progress as we don't get to see many built vs planes and tanks
:pop:

I love building helicopters...Huey's, Sea Kings, Cobras, Mash Chopper in the stash.... just something about them
Would like to make more as well.

Been experimenting with some pastels. It's too much now, Have to clean it up a bit.

When you go very close-up you can see the moulds are old.

The underside has been primed in Ultimate black. Tomorrow I will prime the rest of the parts and fuselage.

Got a bit carried away and forgot to take some pictures during the build ( and paint) process.

The building and painting stage is as good as done. Just some minor fixes and paint touches are needed here and there. Some clear parts need to be added once the Huey has been decalled, weathered and clearcoated.

Overall this has been a fun build. You can see it's a 1959 mold but it does build up nicely into a presentable model. It needs some effort to get there and I'm sure if I spent more time, it would turn out even better. I'm happy with the result so far.

The ammo 'ribon' is very delicate I will gue this in the correct position at the very end.

I built this kit in one of its many boxings back in the 80s. It was a bit of a challenge then if memory serves. You seem to be wrestling it well.

When you say sprue goo, is that a specific product?

It is styrene chunks put into Tamiya Extra Thin (TET)
Here is our goofy thread on it...some people are just always fooling around. Namely me
