Well I have had a bit of a clear out today and tidied up my brushes, sorting some out for my son.
I have decided I need to upgrade and get a few new better quality ones than I currently have.
I would be grateful of any advice and guidance. I have come across the Abteilung 502 Brushes and noticed they have some rather nice looking sets, one which is possibly synthetic ABT845 and another which is Marta Kolinsky ABT850 (presume its Kolinsky sable?).
Has anyone used these? Are they any good? Have to say I like the idea of the cases as I was looking for something similar anyway, but then I am a kit tart lol.... but are they just all show and no go?
I have also just ordered a couple of W&N Series 7 brushes (Size 1 & size 0) which are going to be for best! lol.. and have seen that they also do a Series 7 Miniature Brush... I have never come across these before as the art shop I have used in the past only stocks the normal series 7.
Are these miniature brushes better for model details?

Re: Advice on Brushes
I have the Series 7 miniature - outstanding brushes
, I think the only difference between them and the standard series is the length of the handle; I can't think of many times where a longer handle would have been particularly problematic so I'm sure what you have ordered will serve you well
I did have two Abteilung brushes for using oils, but have recently moved over the W&N again for those as I didn't find the brushes held out very well, perhaps I was being to heavy handed will them through

No the minature has shorter bristles, i think most figure painters prefer the longer ones as they hold more paint.sheppsea wrote: Sun Mar 25, 2018 7:43 am I have the Series 7 miniature - outstanding brushes, I think the only difference between them and the standard series is the length of the handle; I can't think of many times where a longer handle would have been particularly problematic so I'm sure what you have ordered will serve you well

Re: Advice on Brushes
Cheers Sheppsea & Paul,
I have now found the info on the W&N site, yep it seems the Miniature ones have shorter bristles and are available in a smaller range, from 000 to 6 where as the normal go from 000 to 14 though it seems they are only readily available up to size 10...
I am not surprised really as a size 10 is RRP £234.99 OMG !!!
can't imagine how much a size 14 would be !!!
I am guessing the handles are the same length as the W&N site just says 'Short handle' for both....

I only currently have 1 of the W&N brushes which I actually had given to me by a guy at GW about 8 years ago, a size 1 and it was not new when I got it and guess its the standard one as the bristles look longer than the pics. I will be sure when the new ones turn up
PS... If anyone else fancies getting any W&N Series 7 then send me a PM as I have found an art site which has up to 65% off W&N stuff at the minute and also has free P&P until Monday 26th March 2018... (haven't posted a link here as not sure if allowed!)

Re: Advice on Brushes
Well yes ..... But luckily I don't think I would ever need a size 10 unless I was brush painting something humongous lol..... and that's the RRP, they discount them to £130.00..
A normal #1 'Modellers' size for us is £12.99 RRP, Discounted to £8.95 and then an extra 10% off so works out to £8.05
