Looking good.
How much weight did you have to add, Not sure how much I need with mine yet. I just put as much in as I could so far and not sure yet if I have to add more. I think I have about 2-3gms.

Ok so not a ton at all.
In fact it stopped tail sitting right when I added the test fit of the cockpit styrene for the bubble
Adding the lead foil, just one sheet, is probably a gram if that :
I was thinking I will also do some brass rods for the control handles and such to give the little Bell a bit of weight when you pick it up.
I love that little surprise when you pick up a model expecting a light little toy and it has some girth behind it instead.

Oh here we go I found a table:
Table 1 Average weight of lead foils and lead content of 4 common types of dental film
Weight of lead Average lead
Film type n foil; g ± SD content; % ± SDb
Size 0 10 0.438 ± 0.002 81 ± 15
Size 1 10 0.533 ± 0.002 85 ± 14
Size 2 10 0.733 ± 0.013 84 ± 18
Occlusal 10 2.920 ± 0.008 69 ± 13

So mine was a size 1 film that is 0.533 grams. EDIT: no, it is a size2 so 0.733g each foil
Maybe I will stick in a few under the cockpit floor too get it up to 2gm's

I asked my friendly dentist that I have known for like 30yrs and tried to get a supply of that dental film. You should have seen the look on there faces. It was like I had asked for a blank perscription pad all ready signed. Then got the explanation it was a dangerous substance and handled as such via special bins....blah blah. I don't know if they even heard themselves.....I could go into the local hardware and buy tonnes of the stuff, albeit a bit thick.

Oh yeah
I pilfered our storage box of the stuff before we sent it to the recycler as I knew we were going digital with no film and the supply would end.
I would send you some, but mailing lead is kinda like mailing someone bricks
Go lead shot, lead tape or something more readily available locally from the hardware store

The good side of this is I know each foil is about 0.5 g so I will try and remember the amount I add in total.

That would be very cool. Could also add a Korean war era Willy's Jeep with that stretcher on the front like from the beginning scene too for extra style points

I can get unlimited free access to all the wheel weights I want. Although that type of alloy is a bit hard. been looking around here locally, but it is a bit hard trying to find the right sized sheets. Some Ali and copper sheets about the right thickness seem to be plentiful, but have not had any experience using them.
Thanks again

Crap I lost a post somewhere out there ......it’s out there Mulder

Anyhow, was watching MASH opening credits.
Both the movie and the TV series have the MASH and the stars/bars in different location than on the Revell kit. They are farther along the monkey bars behind the cockpit. These are slightly different helicopters as the fuel tanks show, but hell I am going closer to what my childhood remembers from watching TV.

TV:

So I made a little styrene piece for each side

Then will do the same for the stars/bars. Having fun modelling again

Have you tried your local fishing shop/supplier ,people who like to tie there own fly's sometimes make nymphs which are sinking fly's to make them sink they use lead sheet around 1mm thick and it also comes pre coated with an adhesive on one side. Just cut it to size and off you go. It also makes great straps for tank ammo/stores boxes and straps in general on a tank or any model. It also takes paint well too.

I've always loved this helicopter. Years ago, at a local fair (actually quite a large fair - The Eastern States Exposition) you could go for a ride in them (I never did). I think there were 2 or 3 landing and taking off in rotation. They stopped it a few years ago.

Awesome Scott! This looks great and loved the discussion on the fill. Lead like on bullets or copper foil could work. Excellent details

Finding out 1/35 means 2-3 times as much work, paint and time spent.

So some work painting into the cockpit this sat Am
Image
There is around 2g’s of lead under the seat and in the backrest. I was wrong, they were size 2 film packets, so 0.7 g each x3.

I am doing the interior in various True Metal silvers and aluminums then a possible green coat for some chipping effects...maybe
The seats are leather in W&N oil with a gelb Ultimate base
Image

Image

Like the wiped cushions so it looks like wear created by someone getting in and out of them a lot. They look better in person.
I muffed the backrest; got the oil too dark with no wear spots, then added a too thick matt varnish then more paint for effects and detail and correct...it became a thick mess. So couple drops MLT wipe clean, Ultimate cleaner and then re-prime Gelb and start again with oils.

Image
Getting some progress, taking her slow and easy and having fun.

I do enjoy how you made them look a bit worse for wear. Lot of butts were on those seats I'm sure

I love working with oils, its real art - and a very forgiving medium too.
Completely agree
I was avoiding using oil and then watched a few videos.
Saw how you could blotter them so they dry faster, use sparingly on application as they go a long way, alter the background primer for different affects to the top layer and how you can wipe and add wear patterns.
They are a blast and I am only scratching their surface

I plonked away pretty much off and on all day at this in between dad duties.
Been really enjoying making this little chopper
Everything is just dry fitted and or taped in place.
Mostly in primer other than the cockpit which I chose to do in silver(s)

Dry fit of everything shows it all coming together nicely.

I really like the IP in the cockpit too. Very tidy
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

That cockpit is amazingly well done. I suppose it should not be amazing since you did it, but still. Bravo!

Thanks to you all, gentlemen :cheers2: :cheers2: :cheers2: :cheers2: :cheers2: :cheers2:
She is a fun little build :D

Have to mix the green/brown ála PC-10 for the exterior paint next and get that done. Then I can get the engine mounted and detailed.
The interior was a hoot. Everything is hand painted, other than the primer, and even some of that was brushed on :o
The white facing is Ultimate white brushed in two layers and I used kit decals for the dials. I have some brass and wire head sets made to sit on those brass pegs on the back wall.
Still trying to decide if I add the pilot figure or not  :
Enjoying this one immensely

Your lighting is still better than mine even if you call it crappy

Good green color though, definitely looks appropriate :th:

It is Ultimate primers Oxide (brown) and Olive mixed about 1:4
Kind of my PC-10 version of the green/brown
Love how it shoots in the little H/S Ultra for some spray control
Interestingly enough, I am finding my back is acting up after a couple days in a row at the bench
Possibly my chair isn’t up to snuff

Just the shaft and balance arms, rotor blades still to come
I did that to contrast my green with the sickly green from the kit
