1/25 MPC 84' Mad Max GMC pickup

Post by KalebB »

So I've decided to build this as my entry into the 80s GB.

A MPC 1/25th scale 1984 GMC Pickup , which will soon be hacked and scratch built into a vehicle worthy of the Mad Max deserts and dangers. Since the original and Second Mad Max films came out in the 80s I felt it was both cool and appropriate since I love the Mad Max Universe.

Moldings on this kit aren't too bad, engine has some fair detail which I'll try to exemplify with some wiring and a scratch built massive intake.

Image
ImageImageImage

Tires actually look really good and meaty, just with a typical mold seam in the center that can be cleaned up easily
ImageImage

I'll also be attempting to hand make weapons for the truck like a harpoon launcher or machine guns, I've never done it before but I'm excited to try

I'll be starting work on it very soon so I'm sure the next update won't be too far away

Cheers! :cheers2:

You can tell spring is here in the Midwest USA because my allergies are on absolute overdrive. It's okay though I'm persevering through the watery eyes and clog nasel as best I can

This is the first time I've ever deviated from armor so it's been am interesting build so far.

ImageImage

Pretty much have finished the 5.7L 350 engine, that's what I assume it is since it looks like just like the 350 that was in one of my pick up trucks on the farm.

Also have started on the frame and undercarriage suspension.

Cheers :cheers2:

Update on the Mad Max Mobile

Cab and bed has been painted in a Matt black

Engine has been painted up and installed along with the rest of the running gear

Still have plenty to do, more detail painting and some little bits and bobs

Yessir I did, and hell the M2 Browning I'm using I'm not even sure what scale it is  I would consider picking up a figure for this build but I'm such crap at painting figures

Update on the mad max mobile.

Have the body on the frame now, and am starting my weathering as I keep putting little bits and bobs on it as I do. I got to use the Ultimate clay washes I purchased for the first time and I really like them. Makes a great layer of thick dust on the build!

Looking good Kaleb. I am a massive 'Mad Max' fan, always have been since I watched the first movie and seeing your build is kind of inspiring me to do something similar in the near future myself! Hmmm, interesting, so much scope for parts bashing and adding bits to the basic vehicle - I like it! Already looking around the 'net for a donor kit!

Keep up the good work, looking forward to your next update. :thumb2:

Update

Still been very inactive the past few weeks and I apologise to all

Have gotten some little stuff done on the truck, the hood has been painted chrome with a rough finish to simulate how the war boys would have in the fourth film, the wood log bumper has been put on as well as the grill and a chopped up rear bumper. Still working on the layer of dust to make it more realistic as well. Still plenty to get done. Cheers

You definitely should do one! It's been honestly a lot of fun, I'm normally only an armor Modeller and I only like working on real trucks, but this has been fun. I may do a muscle car to go with this at some point
