Academy MiG 21MF 1/48

Post by Quax »

I thought I would have a go at a post war jet for this GB, I was prompted by the original unicorn discussions as this is a subject I have never built (first post war aircraft, first cold war jet etc). On a holiday to Hurghada, Egypt in 2010 I used to see a pair of these almost every day and the kit does have one of these as an option but I'm yet to decide.
A long series of photos now follows....

So to a quick bit of assemblage and preparation for priming
The tub has 3 push out Mark's, only one is a pain so it was sanded out, the control column which seems massive to me also has a hole that needs filling. I altered the kits pedals to add the pe, no one will ever see them again! The two superfluous chaps are the crew for a Tamiya Centaur that needed priming...The primer is Ultimate grey.

Hopefully this hasn't made you cross eyed...

Looks like a cracker Sir.

Love the extras, especially the bang seat. Absolutely stunning piece of resin. Coloured PE for the cockpit will look great too, especially that Russian interior blue/green.
Its been tried and tested, it works! So don't blame the system if you're no good.

Thanks chaps! :th:
I have unfortunately pushed on without the essential photography things...

The fit has been standard Academy, not great but not bad either, I seem to have managed to buy the wrong cockpit pe but managed to get it to fit and its certainly better than the kit issue which has bare side walls. The issue of colours for the bang seat was...."up in the air..." every photo I found online had a different colour so I made it up :shifty:  As you will see from the pics a little filler was required and I have experimented with using stretched spruce so at least I've learnt something.

Ahh the Fishbed - and it's very yellow.
Great work on that ejection seat - I think that looks great; suitably... grimy and very.... Russian.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with this.

Lovely job!! Looks like the quintessential MiG-21 as seen world-wide - and certainly a striking colour. Makes a change from silver or tri-colour.
