Moebius Models 2001: A Space Odyssey - HAL 9000

Post by aur0ra145 »

Howdy folks!

Went to the model store to get some paint and came home with HAL 9000!

I'm sure everyone has seen the movie, so I won't rehash its role. The kit itself lights up! I'm pretty excited about that. Never built a model that lights up before.

The parts count is low, like there are only 7 pieces total.

Overall I've painted it in Ultimate Gloss Black Primer. Chrome bits done in Alclad II Chrome. It's actually looking really good so far. I'm interested to see how the lens and grill come out.

I'm wondering if I can just apply decal solution straight onto the primer, or if I need to apply Aquagloss before decals.

Oh, sure, what could go wrong? I hope your home network is secure - I've heard things about HAL.

I was really hoping my Google assistant had a HAL voice mode. Turns out it doesn't... yet.

Painted the rest of the metal bits in metal color. The grill thing came our really well from what I could tell with the lighting.

Good Morning, Dave.

EDIT:
You know I bet you may be able to fit a microprocessor in there with some sound bites.

Reason: Added a major complication idea to an easy build

It's (almost) ALIVE!

Made some good progress. I'll call it 'finished' I just have no 9v batteries in the house for the LED.... and the wife got really mad when she caught me borrowing one from the smoke detector for a quick function check.

The decals went on really well, no issues there and I think the paint came out really good.

I'm thinking of mounting it on the wall of the man cave. I think it'd be a cool addition.

Super cool! It looks great!

You probably should explain to the Mrs. that she needs to stay on Hal's good side.
