Server Maintenance
Just FYI, the site will be going down in a few minutes. Shouldn't take long to do the update.

Re: Server Maintenance
All done. Nothing noticeable was changed, just a backend update.

Re: Server Maintenance
I used to lover updating servers - for starters it was a weekend job so it meant the magic word - overtime!!
And then there was the uncertainty factor - it was pretty much a given that any update that was major and might be conceived as causing problems went in without issue. Whereas minor changes that should not have caused issues invariably did - to the point where one of them knocked over 7 other servers in a domino effect. And this was AFTER testing the patch in a sandbox environment. SuSe, AIX, Solaris and Microsoft patches usually were OK. Our absolute biggest problem was that Central IT in their ivory tower decided that all Oracle installations had to have Company security patches - which if you were using a company install of Oracle wasn't a problem. However in Virtual Manufacturing all the Oracle installs were vendor proprietary and adding the company patches could and did prove to have VERY undesirable side effects.... I lost count of the monday morning arguments where the oracle servers "vanished" from the network and on ringing Network Control got told that Central IT had ordered them removed because they never had Corporate patches applied - which then meant escalating the issue my side to the bosses to argue over the fact the Oracle installs we were using didn't need corporate patches. Problem was Central IT rotated their Grads who were meant to be qualified DBA's (cue cynical laughter) with very short breaks and as soon as a new one sat in the hot seat our troubles started all over again.. That is one part of working I do not miss!!

With all the poking and prodding you do at the front of the digestive tract, that would be called Karma. Just be glad it's not a iPhone on a selfie stick....Twokidsnosleep wrote: Tue Nov 03, 2020 1:00 am I hate getting my backend maintenance
