Buildig Jig

Hello
can anyone recommend me a building jig for airplanes ? I'm currently looking at 2 different. One in plastic from vertigo and the other one made from wood from LMG. From vertigo, it's hard for me to see which one is which since they are so many

Hi Francis.

I own the Vertigo Basic 7248 one, it's very easy to adjust in order to avoid breaking off any AOA sensors, pitot tubes etc. To be honest, I am a bit gadget freaky, I love the jig.

Vertigo basically offer
- Basic for different scales (7248 as the name says for 1/72 and 1/48, ...)
- Evo slightly improved Basic
- Bi for BiPlanes
- Geometry jigs
- Special purpose jigs like transport, airbrush.

So if you just build 1/48 or 1/72 Jets and Prop, the Basic or the Evo 7248 would be the right one for you, if it suits you, you can always enhance with the upgrade sets they offer, for example for biplanes.
I never had the need to order special parts (airbrushing, transporting etc), just the basic jig is perfect for me.

You think they would just go that extra mile and equip them with molded soft grips though. Kind of a no brain-er really. I know you can glue your own on , but it's not quite the same.

They provide some selfsticking foam-stripes, they are totally ok. And the wingnuts you can also replace by nice knurled nuts (did I mention already that I am gadget freaky) , however that will lift the jig in a new price dimension. But it‘s nice. I must admit.

I know the chap who makes them has been in and out of the hospital quite a lot with serious illness and I had to chase him up a few times but I got my stuff in the end.

Garion77 - I have two of their jigs 1/48 and 1/32. I'm very happy with these. The 1/48 scale one will do 1/72 and some of the smaller 1/32 aircraft whilst the 1/32 one will do bigger 1/48 scales. The bi-plane versions are adaptable to take single wing aircraft.

1/32 jets version - it's longer. (Jets 3248). Yes, that's a 1/32 F-15E on there and it's rock solid.



1/48 prop version (Evo 7248) - note: that's a 1/32 P-51 on it.



I like mine and it's extremely stable. The jets one is longer than the prop one but can be used for 1/32 prop jobs as they are very adaptable.

As with all small/one-man companies there may be some problems - one of the Live Crew in America ordered a jig from Europe direct and the wrong one was sent but it was replaced quickly so now he has two for the price of one. The other downside is that delivery takes ages - 6-7 weeks in my case and that was before Brexit. They are available from the U.S. but you will have to gamble with postage/customs.
