1:48 Eduard Spitfire MkI Battle of Britain

Post by shortCummins »

Here is my attempt at building a Battle of Britain MkI Spitfire using Eduard’s excellent “new” Spitfire MkI early.

The roundels and markings were painted using Montex masks, this Montex set was for a different boxing of the Eduard MkI so no aircraft code was applied, I’ve ordered a generic set from Xtradecal however their not currently in stock, I may well add them at a later date depending on how long they take to arrive.

Paints were Alkan, Mr Hobby, MRP, Tamiya and vallejo over a Stynylrez black primer.

Here’s the photo’s…

Really great work ! true the chipping looks great. And beautiful picture.
So it was a nice kit ? it went well together ? Heard great thing about it but am hesitating on buying it or the tamiya one.

Sorry for the delay in answering, life got in the way!

Yes its a very nice kit, I'd say that Eduard have improved on their MkVIII & MkIX's, I've built several of them, the rivet detail is exceptional, as is the fit.

The only "downside" is their new "pealable" decals, most of them lifted when I tried to remove the carrier film, having said that Eduard don't recommend removing the film!
I used a Montex mask set for the "big" markings as I prefer to paint them anyway so they weren't too much of an issue.

I've not built the Tamiya MkI, I've heard that the engineering is first-class and the fitting of the undercarriage a joy, my problem is that the Tamiya kit is about 30% more expensive than the Eduard version, and their Decals also leave a lot to be desired?

Since completing this kit I've bought another Eduard MkI which I plan to build in the (reasonably) near future.
