Finished Photos of Trumpeter’s 1/24 Scale MKI Hawker Hurricane in Battle of Britain Markings

Post by Phillip1 »

Fellow Modelers,

Below are photos of Trumpeter’s 1/24 scale Hawker MKI Hurricane British WW2 Fighter built in 2020. This is an excellent kit and was built straight from the box. In the latter stages of the Battle of Britain (BoB) the RAF became critically short on pilots, prompting the formation and activation of multiple “foreign” units into frontline service. One these units was No. 303 Squadron piloted by Polish airmen. The unit was activated on August 31, 1940 and ended up being one of the most successful BoB squadrons used by Fighter Command. One of the MKI Hurricanes assigned to No. 303 Squadron was S/N V6684 (side code RF+F) which is the one I modeled. This aircraft was flown by multiple pilots in the squadron and is credited with following air victories:
>(2) Dornier Do 17Zs-September 15th
>(2) Bf-109s-September 26th
>(1) He-111-September 27th
>(1) Ju 88-September 27th
>(1) Bf-110-October 10th
After finishing a long and distinguished career in Fighter Command, it was used as a training aircraft by No. 56 OTU. In August 1942, V6684 was damaged in a forced landing west of Arbroath, Scotland and written off. I recently read a couple of books about the BoB that made me more appreciative of the Hawker Hurricane’s contribution in that conflict. Frequently passed over in praise given to its younger, prettier and better performing cousin-the Supermarine Spitfire, the Hurricane should be remembered as an aircraft that was at the right place at the right time. Its simple construction, ability to absorb significant damage and ability to be quickly repaired made it one of the main reasons the RAF was able to defeat the Luftwaffe. Hurricane squadrons outnumbered Spitfire squadrons three to one when the battle began, and are credited with more kills when the battle officially ended in October 1940. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Really nice build and paint.
I like the Hurricane story and it's a shame it isn't held in higher regard, the spitfire has hogged the lime light for so long I don't think it will change.
