Ey Up! New modeller here.

Post by ludicrusmaximus »

Hello everyone,

I have recently returned to model making after many years. I found this site via some model vids on youtube and signed up to gain some tips on the finer points of modelling. I enjoyed watching the pros do their thing on these vids. I have made about three planes in the last year or so, and they came out pretty well I must say (after a couple of write offs tho); but they are still a bit rough around the edges. So, stuff like pre-shading and proper canopy painting tips are what I would really value, as well as methods of painting multiple coloured camo. Anything really haha.

I mainly make WW2 aircraft and would like to move onto older biplanes as my skills (hopefully) improve. While some early jets attract me, I'm pretty much strictly a prop man. I like some car models too, but they dont seem to make any scale models of the cars I would like to model (older BMWs, NSU Ro80, Alfa Romeos etc). Ships also interest me, but at this stage I'll just ruin them!

I live in Australia.

Welcome to ISM
I too looking to build a WW1 aircraft too , and like you want to improve my skills before I tackle one.
I plan to build one of Peter Jackson's "Wingnut Wings" kits and they're not cheap so will making sure I'm up for it. Look forward to seeing your builds.

Thanks for the welcome! Good job finding a GTV model. I'd make that one, but I've never seen anything like it in local model shops. Online seems to be the way to go.

Cheers

There is a company I found online called Roden, and they make WW1 aircraft (some obscure, like a Gotha bomber), a couple of which my local shop stocks. The colours are very rich, so they'd still be a challenge though. Roden also make some 30s civilian bi-planes, including a DH4, which was used early by QANTAS. That is the one I'm thinking about as my first bi-plane. I think this company is quite promising 8-)

Haha, thanks! :thumb2: I got it from a corny 70s comedy called "Up Pompeii". Another character was called Odius Maximus, and I use this name on my favourite boardgame website, heh.

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome guys! :cheers2: This site looks very enjoyable indeed. For now Ill mooch about and gather tips, and look at all the make pics. I may post up some pics of my completed efforts, including my Hellcat, which was my first "successful" model (ie the 1st one I didnt totally f***) and the Corsair which turned out quite well. It'll provide a nice progression of skills.

Thanks Again :th:
