Hello from Dudley

Post by Modelcrazy »

Good evening everyone.
I am returning to this hobby after a gap of over 20 years (where has the time gone?).
Being a driver for a well known West Midlands bus company spare time is at a premium so I'm afraid I'm not what you would call a quick builder but hopefully progress will be steady on whatever the project may be.
My main interest is in military aircraft and this interest was rekindled with the newly tooled Airfix 'Dambuster' Lancaster and Operation Herrick Merlin of which I have bought both.
My skills were mediocre at best in my previous attempts but having come across some of the video's on Youtube completely by accident I now understand some of the terms I've been coming across (pres shading etc) so hopefully results will be far better than in previous.

Well enough waffling on time to have a look around the forum and pick up some more hints and tips before I start splashing the glue and paint around.

Regards to all, Dave.

PS A Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New year!!
Regards Dave.

Thank you Paul.

Well been having a little look-see at some of the model builds on here - crickey I've got a long way to go to achieve some of these standards.
Think I'm going to get myself a little practice kit and break out the airbrush from my model railway days and see what happens. Mind you its been so long since I used it I can probably guess the outcome!

Regards Dave.

Gentlemen (and Ladies if there are any on here) thank you for these kind words of welcome. I keep forgetting how popular this hobby is. Feels so good to be among 'friends' now that I am dipping my toe back into the water so to speak.

Hi Dave, :welcome: to ISM!

With regards to putting up pictures - go on, what's the worst that could happen! :th:
You'll find that everyone on the forum is very supportive, will help when asked and will only provide positive feedback - it's all good!

Hi Alextheblue,

The reason there won't be any pictures at the moment is that I'm not currently building anything. I've got those two Lanc's and the Merlin but want something a little smaller to practice on first as its been a very long time since I've actually built anything. Things have also changed so much from the good old days of the 'shake and bake' kits with all this aftermarket additional detailing kits I'm still looking around.
Fingers crossed I can bag the Harrier on the December giveaway LOL. Do like the Harriers though so may have a bash at one of the re-tooled Airfix offerings.

Regards Dave.

Got to agree with you there, things certainly have changed! Until I joined ISM I wasn't even aware of most of the techniques and products that are available now.

The other great thing about this forum is that there's no pressure. You can post comments and pictures when you feel ready and nobody is going to judge you.

It's all good! :th:
