Been a member since July so about time I did this introduction of myself.
I did a lot of modelling when I was younger somewhere between 1975-ish to 1983-ish.
So, +30 years ago! I remember building all kinds of stuff, planes, ships, cars, Star Wars...even dinosaurs!
(There were som fantastic dinosaur kits back then)
Since I was a kid I have been crazy about everything that flies, warships, cars and other technical stuff.
Another thing that has stuck with me all my life is the fascination and interest in WWII.
A subject I have been studying since I learned how to read.
As an adult, these two interests now come togehter in my comeback to modelling.
So my subjects are almost exclusively WWII, Planes and ships. And of course the Swedish Airforce.
WWII primarely the Lufwaffe and DKM but also the USAF and USN.
Another hobby from younger days was flying models. Free flying gliders, rubber band driven, line control and at the end R/C controlled. This was actually the first hobby I re-started 10 years ago, flying R/C planes.
It evolved into me and a friend starting up a form of aerobatics competition called IMAC (International Miniature Aerobatics Club) in Sweden 2005. The sport is from the US started in the mid seventies, today about 25 countries are involved.
This is R/C flying with 2,5-3,3m wingspan aerobatic models (Extras, Edge, Sukhois, Yaks etc) powered by 100-200cc gas/petrol engines.
I quit this hobby during 2013 due to lack of time. It requires lots of practice time in combo with suitable weather.
This is when I decided to take up plastic scale modelling again, a hobby that You can do exactly when time permits regardless of weather...1 hour there, 3 hours there...perfect!
So, I sold all my R/C planes and gear which meant that I had a nice budget to enter modelling.
(Fully equipped IMAC planes range, depending on size, from 2000 to 8000£/€)
This authumn I have invested in setting up and equipping my mancave, also bying models that I just must build.
The mancave, my Tools, models etc will be presented as I move along with posting builds...
Its been Amazing to dive back into this fantastic hobby again, its taken a quantum leap since the 1970/80-ties.
Back then it was sticky glue, poorly detailed and poorly fitting models, Nail polish files and enamel Paints which you brushed on.
Today You need to spend half your time just keeping track of cool new releases, Tools, Paints, washes, and the gazillion aftermarked stuff...
You just got to love it right!?!?!
For my comeback I choose two kits that was cheap (so failure was not going to hurt), not complex, and not to good. E.g. I wanted a bit of a challenge to be able to learn stuff. Not kits that would just fall togehter.
They are Airfix 1/48 Me 109 E4 and Airfix 1/48 Spitfire PR XIX (as the Swedish S31).
Both near completion and have been subject to me trying varios techniques, glues, fillers, sanders, washes, paints etc.
Have been taking pics along the way and will post a build thread for each when completed in a few days.
I have also started my first "serious" project, Trumpeter 1/48 Vampire Mk Fb 5. Which will end up as the Swedish J28 B.
Swedish markings from RB studio and Eduard PE set. Will also require som mods and scratching.
Finally: I would like to give credit to two guys that are a huge part of me starting again.
Phil Flory of flyrymodels.com and Bobby Waldron of Genessis-models.
Watching their tutorials and builds have allowed me to gain 10yeas experience in 6 months!
Fantastic work by these guys and a great contribution to our hobby.
See You in the forums Guys! Happy modelling and A Happy New Year to You all!!!
