Its only me Morine!

Post by Duck »

Hello!
I know I have been on the forum for a couple of days now so I think I should make a entrance, but that's what hero's do! I've been modelling for years, but not tanks, diorama for 1:32 model farms as that's my lively hood and that's what I'm interested in! I grew up on a farm in Somerset which was a small farm owned by my dad, unfortunately he was called back to service in 2005 (He is scout sniper/sniper). My dad doesn't really talk about his military service a lot, instead he like to draw pictures and write stories of his active time in the military! He has taught me many things, the art of concealment, stalking (Prey not ladies..), He was taught me wind adjustment and how to doap the scope to adjust with the changing winds, he has also taught me gun safety but not how to shoot, he believes I must teach my self individual things just in case something happens, I need to adapt and use my brain! Which is painful considering I'm... well... dense.
Since then I have taken up many hobbies like, air-soft (helps practice concealment), Clay pigeon shooting and also Deer stalking. Since a young age I have had a fascination in guns and armour, I enjoy collecting replica guns to see how they work but the can cost a bit of money so now I just buy the manuals, I also got my self a job at the nearest shooting club, Wallers ash and I think the one of the main reasons I enjoy doing it, is because everyone is in a close community and helps each other, much like this forum, thankfully.
Another Job (gun club is once every fortnight on Sundays) is a general farm hand, I do most of the manual work around the yard, I replace roofs, and maintain the yard to a high standard, or the best I can do along with driving Tractors, I'm too young to drive on main roads but I can do small country lanes and field work and I think I do the job alright, or I would have the job! that's where I got my name Duck, its my CB handle ;) The farm job is very good, I do most of it on inset days and after school so its more like a past-time...
When I was young my parents divorced and I moved to Hampshire with my brother and my Mother in 2011 and I'm enjoying the jobs so far! previously I worked on a small sheep farm in Somerset, just bedding down, nothing else.

More about me as a person though, I'm 14, born 27'th March 1999 and my real name is Thomas (Patrick James) Barrett, I do a few sport, Boxing and Rugby (woo mans sport)
since the 26th I have started a 1:35th scale Tiger I and I'm enjoying it very much and I hope I get into this in the future!

Best regards, If you have any questions, or doubts about it, please ask away!

Also, just so you can see my mug, thats my with my mumsy! And my custom t-shirt I got her for Christmas of my mug aswell!

Great intro tom, i too am fascinated by weapons and own a few replica's myself. I was also an avid shooter, air rifle and shotgun until a car crash knackered my shoulder and put a stop to that. I was a founder member of Fort Airgun Club along with my best mate nige who funnily enough is a ex sniper/master sniper and may well know your dad.

Welcome to ISM Tom. I too am an avid shooter, mainly air rifle stalking but, do go deer stalking and pigeon bashing every now and then. Definitely don't get out as much as I used to! :)

I love shooting and the smell of sulphur, I too have a air-rifle and shoot a lee Enfield 303 deer stalking (it was cheap and my dad bought it for me when I got into the hobby!) And I hope you sholder gets better, if not, you just need a bigger padded skeet jacket ;) Unfortunately most of my money has gone to my new work bench because when we moved in the old one was a door on some legs and I cant be having that! So I've been at the bench! Do you want me to add some pictures of the workbench, im propper chuffed and im sure some of you lot will have suggestions on where to put things?

Regards

Righty hoe!
Heres how it started! a dirty cluttered mess with mums boyfriends chemical barrels everywhere! I dont need installation, Im a man! .. :/
Image
Image

Here is the targeted corner where it will be!
Image

First thing to get done was the corner obstacle! I used a bansaw and cut the chunk out of it and it fit snug against the wall which was a relief to me.
Image

After the corner was cut, I added the legs and the skirt
Image
The hole construction is fairly easy, the legs are two 80cm stilts with the topping of a 62cm beam across, I added support at the lower bottom to stop the legs kicking out and another one spanning all three legs so the don't decide to bend in and collapse.

Here is bench one complete, with the sign added for a ooo ahh effect!
Image
To my surprise she was level, bench two is now a go go go...
Image

But before I started the second bench I bought myself some metal trim so the edges don't get scuffed up and ruined.
Image
Image

Image

And now the second bench! Since then I have added the trim and its skirt and added a extension lead and a new light as there is only one!
Image
(and no, the orange extension lead isnt it, its licely pinned to the wall, that one was temporary! )

The plans for the future, I would life a plastic rack with small bins in to put nails and drill fittings, also a boxing bag mount so I can hang my dirtbikes engine when in need of repair or I can hang something to get a better view of under it without turning it!

Hopefully, unfortunately the windows are leaking and the roof is collecting water and I don't like that at all! So puty them windows (I think the wood is rotting) and also replace the rubber on the roof, but I might have to get my mum to get someone in to do that, unless its nothing to worry about :)

Shhhhh... *cough cough* its medical ;)

And thanks everyone, I'm glad to be on! And the bench is so nearly finished but its freezing in the garage, I have already bolted it onto wall so the only thing I can do is make window seals and put rubber seals under the door! Im in to process of welding metal boxes with mesh in them for the windows as already ones been smashed and the circular saw is gone, drills, sprocket sets, grinder, buffer, ban-saw and everything that wasn't bolted down :/ so start from base one and save for it again...
My summer project is to learn about drainage systems as in heavy rain water collects in our driveway because it downgrades and the water just sits on the gravel.... The house I moved into isnt top scratch, nothing really works well, it just works! And the painters who re-pained it inside and out before we moved in made a hash job, my windows have white paint all over them :( Duck is sad.

Hello Thomas great introduction mate and we have similar first names :th: although i have always shortened it to just Tom, unfortunately gun clubs here are rare or hard to get a license to shoot in Ireland or maybe the other part is it is so expensive, i used to have an air gun but had to leave it behind in England.
looking forward to your Tank build and would be interested in seeing your work-bench.

Thomas and Tom, names for kings I would say? And they have got some cracking airsoft sites over in Ireland, although I suppose it isn't the same thing, is there difficulties shipping from England? I'm not suer on the laws for weapons in Ireland :(

Even air weapons need to be on firearms certificate, the good thing about that is they are no restricted to 12ftlbs power like us over here
