1/72 Airfix Westland Sea King HAR3

Post by MikeyKb »

I might have been the yellow that caught my eye - but I picked this up thinking it would be a super fast build... unfortunately, we can't always get what we want :P

Ah, the good (?) old Seaking by Airfix.
It's not a great kit and the mouldings really do need re-tooling but with a bit of patience and loads of tlc usually builds up into a half decent model.

Both of you were horrifically right :(
I just wish I would have known this before a) spending money on it; and b) wasting so much time on it.

The fitting is SH*T, absolute garbage. The two halves of the body don't even remotely fit together.
So far the only 1/72 kit that's been half-decent is the Academy P-51C.

From now on, I think I'll stay away from 1/72s (other than what I already have in my stash)... unless of course there's a company that you 'swear by' for quality regardless of scale. I'm definitely staying away from Airfix all together though, that's for sure.

This is the final update - for a long while on this one.
Here's are the last pics taken just before trying to get the halves together - I was going to try and photograph them, but got too pissed :bash:

Mikey the new tooling Airfix kits fit like a dream. The older ones are often very basic with bad fit as you have found out. It pays to do some research online if you can first to check if its a newer kit or not, as they have reboxed their old kits in the new boxes so its not possible to tell just from that.
