Hobby Knife?

Post by ScaleModelling1105 »

Hi guys.
Was building some more of my skyhawk this evening and then suddenly my swann-morton knife snapped. It was only a plastic handle with a non-removable blade but i now need a new knife. What do you guys use? P.s. i don't want to spend lots of money. Ideally i want something good quality but cheap as my modelling budget is very small. I saw the swann-morton metal handle with separate blades which looks good. Have any of you used this?
Cheers,
Will Hall

I use a citadel knife, less than a tenner. Very comfortable and durable. I like it a lot!!!!!!

I have the Citadel knife as well and it is very comfortable and fits Xacto no 11 blades perfectly.

Yep, I'm another citadel user, a bit expensive I thought, but it's sturdy and comfortable. I 'd look for one with a strong (metal) neck. That's the part that takes all the abuse! :th:

I use this... from B&Q.

It's half the size of a normal Stanley knight, retractable and you can snap off the blade once it's dull. Heavier than a hobby knife mind, but I'm not a small guy and don't like things I think will float away, and it doesn't roll around the desk when put down. I'm new though, and still experimenting.

I'm with Lee on this one - scalpels every time for me.

It's so much easier to sew a finger back on if you cut off cleanly in the first place!! :eeek:

I use a Maplins craft knife, I think it was less than fiver, is quite weighty, has a rubber hand grip and takes all standard xacto blades.

Swan Morton retractaway. Metal handle, with retractable blade holder. Brilliant and less than a fiver...
