Hello from Vietnam

Post by Henk »

Hi Guys,

I'm originally from Cape Town, South Africa but have been living in Saigon, Vietnam for the last 2 years.

I joined this forum a couple of weeks ago having read quite a few of the listed topics already :)

I'm a complete newbie to this hobby but always wanted to try it out. Couple of years ago I bought a 1/48 Academy F14A Tomcat (after watching Top Gun as a boy I always thought this is the most beautiful thing with 2 wings ever designed) and let it sit on my fridge looking at me.

So one day I decided today is the day I'm building this beast! Bought some glue and tools to get started - haven't done any research, completely messed it up. Dropped my cheap airbrush on the floor same day I bought it - of course needle first without the cap on it :bash: which led me eventually to this forum :)

Shops with paints and tools are scarce in Vietnam so I have to order most of my stuff on Ebay.

Been watching Paul's 'How to' videos on the BF109 and decided to build that one first .

So got myself a new airbrush, been training on some kitchen paper (I can write my name perfectly Paul :cheers2: ) and just waiting for my glue and primer to arrive then we all set.

But lastly and more importantly I joined this forum because I've noticed how humble and helpful the fellow bloggers are here : - This really is a fantastic community you have here and I hope one day I will have enough experience and expertise to give back in return.

Happy Modelling :thumb2:

:welcome: to the forum Henk! :th:

And don't worry about dropping stuff, we all do it - I spend more time on my hands and knees picking up bits that I've dropped than I do actually sat in front of the old workbench!

Welcome mate i am sure you will learn a lot here

Saigon as no no doubt know was renamed following the war as Ho Chi Minh City , but many of my Viet friends here in Australia still call it Saigon so i guess old habits die hard

Cheers
