Hi Paul,
My favorite aircraft are pre 1939. So much so that I started my own company that designs and markets plans of full scale flying replicas of Great War and Golden Age military aircraft. You may view my website at http://www.GreatWarReplicaAircraft.com
I am writing because the US National World War 1 museum is located in Kansas City. The museum is excellent with one exception. There is a conspicuous absence of aviation exhibits. What is there are donated failed replica projects and do not represent the history accurately. As we all know the aeroplane grew from a quaint novelty into an indispensible weapon of war during the Great War.
I would like to gauge the level of interest among forum members in joining a program to address the gap in the museum displays where aircraft are concerned. Because of space limitations I feel the best way to do this would be through models. All in a single scale, 1/48 so they aren't too large, yet have enough detail to hold patrons interest. Let me know what you think of the concept and project. The museum does not have a lot of funding, so donations would be best.
Thanks,
Tom Johnson

Hi Tom,
to ISM. I think you project idea sounds fantastic! We have an ISM Sig WW1 build coming up later in the year and I suspect there will be quite a few aircraft builds in it. Although I cannot speak for others I would be happy to make a contribution to the museums collection once the Sig is over on the condition that ISM gets a significant mention in the display.

Re: Hello from Kansas
Currently on the bench, well workshop table at least...
Full scale Bristol F.2b Fighter.
Welded 4130 steel tube fuselage, aluminum wings, Jaguar 5.3L V-12 converted for aircraft use.
The beauty of the flight capable replicas I design and build is that you aren't 100% stuck with incorporating poor engineering for the sake of purity. You can improve structure, modify airfoil sections and construction methods to end up with what looks 100% accurate dimensionally, but incorporates modern materials, construction methods, hardware, engine technology and instrumentation. The result is a thing of beauty that outflies the original, is safer, stronger, lighter and eminently more maintainable.
