1/72nd VVS Fighters - I-153 & Yak1

Post by ChrisSteadman »

I'm a wargamer and not really a modeller, but thought folk here might want to see these that I did for the recent speed build over at The Guild. Not really built with the attention to detail that the talented folk here have, but as toys for gaming.

The I-153 is the old Heller kit reboxed by SMER. It is an old (1982) simple kit and it went together well. The decals used are those that came with it. I added the RS-82 rockets which come with the launch rails in a nice after-market set made by AML. The pilot figure is by Liberation Miniatures.

Second is the A-Models Yak-1. Being a limited run kit it was a bit of a challenge to build, but on the positive side I learnt a lot, both modelling skills and about the limits of my patience. Lots of filler and sanding. I wanted to portray the aircraft used by Mikhail Baranov (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikhail_Baranov) and bought the decal set by AML, who I understood to be a good manufacturer. They have come out OK, but are over thick, silvered along many of their edges and failed to respond to Micro Sol and wouldn't conform to surface detail. I'm a bit disappointed. Another manufacturer to add to the 'No, no.' list.

I am in love with the I-153, Deffinatly need to purchase that! Does the SMER kit have the option for Gears up and down? how easy/hard was it to fit a pilot in?

Thanks for your kind comments guys.

Benge - yes, the gear can be modelled in the down position. The pilot was fairly straight forward to fit in. The kit doesn't include one. I did amputate the lower legs on the one that I used.
