Playing with the body panels






I was going to make water and oil lines to the radiators, but it doesn’t make sense as they are all covered up in the side pods

Was super honoured to be mentioned in the running on the live show yesterday....I had a laugh as I have not cemented any of the sub components together yet. Even the engine block is loose from the transmission awaiting my braided hoses.
Shows Tamiya engineering more than my skill

So what about Gravity Colors??
I defended him on that video as apparently the European ex partner is slagging him
I can no longer contact him of Facebook
Website contact has proven useless
Maybe look at local automotive two part clears???

I dont know Scott, I see from his reply to you he finally got the colors? Just noticed you both had some issues with that company and gave you a heads up. To me Gravity... is just what happens to my parts when a part goes flying away from my snippers and the rug monster kicks in and steals them from me!. haha!

Sorry to hear you still haven't got your gravity order still.

There is a guy in Canada who is importing zero paint he's listed on hiro boy web site you could try him at least you won't have to deal with customs, keep up the great work on the build.

Having a small business is hard, so I don’t want to slag him
The paints as a product are great, just the business end needs improvement.
I will try something else for clear and move the Lotus and Ferrari along...and wind up with two Gravity orders out of the blue, likely. Always seems to work that way

Ok, so a rainy Sunday, I did my chores and got to plod away at the Lotus
She got a second coat of green on the body panels and a first on the wings.
Then I thought I would try a decal.....they are beautiful Cartograph decals, this is basically right after final positioning.

Little trouble on the nose, but hopefully the red bottle, set or sol never remember, will settle it down a bit more.

Also got wheels painted, detailed and the tires sanded...no decal for manufacturer on these tires



Used clear shrink tubing to make the main fuel line just in front of the engine and then some beading wire as the rear brake electrical line.


Hoping for a good mail call at the office tomorrow. I am off, but have a service call and lots of paperwork to do.
Funny on a vacation the last place you want to go is work...go figure

Great start with decals Scott, To me it's the start when the car starts to really comes alive, also liking the detail on the fuel tank. Hope you get some luck with the clear soon.

I am so getting hosed tonight ...that usually means getting drunk in Canadian verbiage, but in this case it means I am adding hoses to the engine

The green is fighting me at the moment. I might have to do another decant or just barely have enough.
The coverage has been spotty over filled ejector pins

This is some of the best model work I have ever seen.

Today was decal day...I like when this happens as the build starts to come alive ..and is coming to its conclusion. Usually I have a hate on for a build as I get to the end, but this one has been pretty ok
I got most of the transfers done with only a bit of a struggle on the long side ones and some tears and crinkles

*paint black on side skirts....done
*final decals and sol applications for no bumps or wrinkles
*clear coats for green bits
*polish aluminum bits as needed
* seat belts, don’t forget the damned seat belts
*front and rear wings on
*extinguishers mounted and wired
*engine to chassis
* rear suspension linkage
*Throttle linkage
*cockpit lining
*final tubing hookups
* mount side skirts and body panels
*Touch up painting as needed
*wheels on

Been working away at my list....seatbelts done and everything shown is cemented now

It just keeps getting better, can't wait for the finish

I looked at ribbon but it was garbage. Anything else to use as seat belts for future builds??

I was kind of thinking of maybe a cross between those two pics......pit lane scene, but with all the cowlings off and raised up in the back, while the car is forward maybe a helmet, front wheels and removed steering wheel in the foreground.

With the imprecise cowling fitting and covering all the detail, I think this is the way to go

That is just stunning it really is

My vote would be to pose it with the cowling off so you can show off all that detail work you've done around the engine and gearbox - it would be a shame to bury that all away. Are you able to just take the engine covers off or are they moulded to the side pods on this one?

I could fit the side pods on, but they cover up quite a bit and frankly look like pants,as you English like to say, withought the other cowlings on.
But it would save me from having to detail the two radiators...not that those are too big of a deal. I repainted all the aluminum and removed some attatchment bumps so it can all be open. Gonna pose it with the pods on and see how she looks though.
I have a Tamiya figure set at work I might just grab and see if any other details can be added to the scene

Was just thinking how they generally looked up on the stands in the garage and from memory it was unusual to see them stripped down to the side-pods unless they were having to do some serious digging in the radiators; engine covers and nose cowling off was the norm.

I just saw your comment about the lack of tyre stencils as well - that really is strange; I wonder if Goodyear got stroppy about licensing at some point because I remember Tamiya kits having the name embossed on the tyres when I was a kid. I've got a couple of spare Goodyear & Eagle curved tyre stencils left over from the McLaren build which I'm happy to put in an envelope if that'd help at all; unfortunately it's only the two sets they included as spares but maybe they'd work for your rear tyres as the second pic you posted doesn't appear to have stencils on the fronts?

Yes, I think you are correct, looks like Tamiya and Goodyear had a legal snit and there is not a single goodyear logo anywhere

Just in case any of you get the notion that I have a clue what I am doing, here is my latest disaster.
I call it “ Let’s get CA glue all over everything plus my thumb and then get silver paint on there somehow as well and get it all over the model”..bit long of a title, but very accurate.

Silvered thumbprint over the Tissot decal on the RHS Wing front...not removable.
Inside of both vertical wings covered in Ca glue as the horizontal section would not hold and slid down repeatedly.
I have stripped the paint off the inside verticals and reprimed them grey them Ultimate...but before that I added indicator pins to get some mechanical assistance for the second glue up attempt





Two pins each side made from that silver wire and I used white Ultimate primer to mark where the pin hits the vertical wing. Drilled holes all the way through and then will have a PE rivet on top. This should allow for an easier glue up attempt #2

Nice job on the recovery. I am afraid I know that CA game all too well. It isn't always that recoverable. Really nice work.

I knew the wing would not assemble correctly as was...the tiny indent and bump were way too weak to get a positive seat.
But hell ya, slather some Ca glue in there Scott, it will hold. Not!
Gotta listen to that little voice and SLOW THE HECK DOWN!

I have re-painted the vertical wing inners now and touched up the horizontal one as well.
Then I put it all away to let the paint set up properly and not get rushed into glue again...or finger prints
It is really close to finish and I think I have the diorama sorted.
Going to TEST out a MR Color gx uv clear on a paint mule and see if it is ok to use. See I am trying to use my head
