Re: Soviet Armoured Aerosan NKL-26 & Aerosan RF-8/GAZ-98
poured the first layer of the Ice (Clear) using Vallejo still water. Was going to use Magic water a two part resin but this is no mixing and it pours from the bottle. The next layer, when this first one is completely dry... I will add a white pigment to it to give that icey white look.. I hope.

Re: Soviet Armoured Aerosan NKL-26 & Aerosan RF-8/GAZ-98
Added the second layer of ice with the white pigment.. it come out close to what I expected.. still needs a little bit of tweaking. looks like the pigment seperated from the resin in some areas

started working on the ski troops

these guys needed some surgery so they can stand on their skis

this third guy might require some adjusting to his arms so he could hold on

Re: Soviet Armoured Aerosan NKL-26 & Aerosan RF-8/GAZ-98
since there is a few more weeks to go unitl the finish.. I figured I take another shot at the Ice... the intial try was OK for the first ever attempt at this ,but I think I can do better.. going to try another resin this time. Also using a rectangle base.
I like the clock idea but it did not leave the room I wanted to do other things on this project without looking like everything is squeeze in..

plastic glass primed then sprayed... added the air dry clay for the shoreline

I'll let dry a few days then pour the resin.. I took a lot of the darker blue olor out compared to the orignial.
in the end I'll chose the base ...clock or rectangle that, looks the best.

Sleds are complete with the exception of mountng the machine guns.
presently working on a second diorama base using a different resin and working on some russian ski tropps to trail behind the sleds. almost there

still have more work to do on the base

Looking good Rob, looking damn good...
Hope the square base is coming along mate... Gonna be a tough choice i bet but the perfect way to maybe display both Aerosans separately if wanted with a couple of figures etc..
All the best mate..

Shame about the failed experiment Rob, would have liked to have seen the square base all finished up... but i suppose you win some, you lose some..rwsmith14 wrote: Thanks Andy I nixed the second base after pouring the top resin layer and attempted an experiment and screwed it up. Hope all is well with the figures then bud..

The sleds are just about complete.. still going to add some accessories to them. had the skier figures just about complete. I appllied a Mig wash and it just about ate through the gloss coat, paint and putty and styrene.. in the prcess of re painting them and going from there,.starting to work more on the Ice and shoreline, slowlying adding some features to to the shoreline. used brizzles from a paint brush for the reeds.. will add a few more at different heights. the foilage is from woodland senics.

Looking good Rob, I do like the finish on these sleds still, they look excellent.....
You got me concerned with this though...
Worrying though... this is Mig washes you are on about...
Some may suggest sticking to the clay based washes but sometimes the quick enamel pin washes are good for small details... like Oil paint washes..
Even the turps/white spirit in those home made washes can deteriorate the glue and agitate the gloss coat..
Oh well, live and learn... glad you have managed to save the build.....
Continued success mate...

Must be the enamel thinners in the wash.... I stripped some teeny 1/76 figures once trying to clean up some cock up i made with Enamel thinner..had the skier figures just about complete. Almost there guys !! I haven't really did much on it, since last you saw it . Been trying to save the skiers from the Wash fiasco.. going to go without them, if nothing changes between now and the weekend.
Just some tweaking, cleanup and some textured snow to add on the sleds and she'll be complete

It's fantastic! I really love it! Both vehicles, the figures and the clock as a dio base work together so nicely. Brilliant!
Take care! Jens

Its a sweet build Rob, with or without the extra figures....
I do like that extra snow dusting on the ice showing the sled tracks.... very clever dude, how did you get that effect?
All in all a very cool dio mate... Well done..
