Time for more dirt and some rust too!
The grey dust-streaks almost disappeared completely when I gloss-coated the tank, so I have to recreate them last thing I do, before I hit it with flat-coat... You learn new things every day in this hobby
Next step will probably be to add a couple of rust-streaks to get some variation. I will not go completely bonkers with rust, though. Cast metal will not deposit much red rust - it's more like dark grey/black streaks I believe.

Tommy Killander, on Flickr
But I have added some orange/red "new-rust" on some details, just to make it more interesting. Worn steel that is not maintained (like a machine gun would) would probably pick up some orange rust here and there...

Hey Guys,
It's time for some rust-tones....
First some light surface rust on the fuel-cans:

After this it's flatcoat, maybe some filters and a couple of fuelstains/oil marks.
I'm pleased with the result sofar, but there is always room for improvement, ofcourse

Great work mate I've been watching this build with interest. Very soon I'll be able to resume the building of the very same kit it's been a long 5 months

Thank you, just had no time for the last 5 months or so hopefully this will change next month and I can get going again, really miss it but keeping on ISM gives me a sort of daily fix and keeps me going.

Hey Guys,
It's been a busy week and weekend - but not at the bench, unfortunately.
But the tank build is almost completed now.
Let's apply some more dust again, the first layer looked nice but vanished almost completely when I sprayed on the gloss coat.

Hey Guys!
It's been a while, but now it's time to finish this build.
So next up is figure painting. There's a reason that I do this last thing - I'm not very good at it, but I'll do my best
Jacket have been painted in XF-60, with some highlights on the shoulders and large flat areas.
20161210_193947 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
Gloves painted in XF-59 and the hand microphone in XF-2
20161210_193632 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
Face painted with Vallejo skintones - this is as good I can get it, if I try to correct the mistakes it will get worse

Tommy Killander, on Flickr
Finally it was time for this fun detail!
20161210_201442 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
I did the masking using punched kabuki-tape dots and Maskol
20161210_203720 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
I made a try to mask and brushpaint the headband for the glasses, but it failed horribly so I had to strip the paint and start over again with Black primer. I will use that as the colour for the headband.

I'm happy with that - why didn't I do it like this in the first place ?

Parts have ben glosscoated and I will do the washes later today.

Okey... I have continued with the figure. Treated it with some oils - this is the first time I used Abteilung 502 paints and compared to the cheap stuff I used before this is fantastic to work with. Sorry for the crap photo...

Thanks Troy, it's all fake
I use a magnifying lamp most of the time I build and paint stuff.

I'm glad that you find it useful
For me it's a way of documenting my own work. You should be surprised how many time I go back to my own buildthreads to look up something that I did. And I think it's fun to post the progress in the buildthreads as well - it's always nice to get constructive feedback and cheers from other modellers.
Okey, I have assembled most parts of the tank now and removed the masking tape for the headlights and the periscopes:

So, let's stowe that away in a dustproof box until its time to do the final weathering and take reveal photos.
And it's time to move on with the final step - The base!
Big or Small ? I think the big one looks better, the other one is too small and it looks wrong

I will try to treat the surface so it looks more like concrete - just need to figure out how to do it

Hi there!
Okey... it's time to finish this build, so let's get on with the base - that's the only part that is left to do now.
The frame have been masked, since I will keep the original colour.

Primed with Black Ultimate Primer. It's kinda OK, but not how I want it...

Tommy Killander, on Flickr
Second attempt is better, but still not there...
20161213_212005 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
Finally I had to coat the surface with thinned out plaster to get it like I wanted it. I sanded the surfaces with a coarse sanding stick to get the right wear-and-tear look.
20161214_222144 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
Primed it again with Black primer.
20161216_200243 by

Now it's glued together and I will let it cure overnight and start painting it tomorrow

Hey Guys,
It's been a busy day at the bench - good stuff!
I have painted the base with different shades of concrete(?)-grey and also touch-up the surfaces with some warmer tones to get some variation.
20161217_164143 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
After the Aqua gloss had dried next step was to add some washes, first starting with Ultimate Earth wash
20161217_180552 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
...and then some Ultimate Concrete wash and finally a couple of dark spots with HGW Black wash. I blended everything together with a wet brush, leaving it to dry for 30-40 minutes.
20161217_192801 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
I wanted to add some foliage to get a bit of contrast.
20161217_193355 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
And this is the result, I'm happy with that

I must admit that this part of the build had probably been less difficult if I had moulded the concrete slabs in plaster instead of experimenting with styrofoam...
But the best way to learn is by doing mistakes...
So it's time to do the final weathering in order to complete the build. I used a soft brush to apply Light Dust and Concrete pigements on the base, running-gear to make the model "blend in" with the base. I also added pigment on the upper hull and turret to make it look more dusty.
20161217_210658 by
Tommy Killander, on Flickr
Finallly I did a pinwash with Ultimate Rust in hinges and other places where rust collects.
One awesome thing about Ultimate Rust is that if you put a drop of it on a surface it will give a very bright orange "fresh-rust". Sometimes that is exactly what you want, but if you want a less bright colour, just let it dry and use a soft brush to carefully blend it in with the base-colour.

It's time to set up the camera and photo booth; there will soon be more pictures up in the Reveal section
To conclude this build; Tamiya have earned their reputation by doing kits of interesting objects that well engineered, easy to build and the result is a great looking model. The kits are not the cheapest ones around but they are not expensive if you think about it, because if you want more details than what Tamiya offers you will have get up a notch in price-level and/or add aftermarket parts.
This kit was no exception to that; the build went like a dream with parts that fitted together perfectly, instructions that where easy to understand and the resulting model had great details despite the relatively low part count. The rubber tracks worked perfect for this kit - no need for individual track links.
This is a great kit for a novice or someone that have just got back to the hobby, or an experience modeller that wants a relaxed build to restore mojo or just have some fun.
So... I certainly Love Tamiya
