Working on the base color of the concrete - it's kind of a black basing thing. Added some cracks and chips to the texture.

I know it's ass backwards but I wanted to work on the upper level before finishing the concrete. I've added a rock and a tree stump (another was added after this photo) along with dirt and snow. I want it to look muddy and messy with wood chips trampled earth.

What on the post apocalyptic Earth is this bit? You'll see.

Image

This bit is a tree. It will go on the lower level up against the long wall. It's one he didn't cut down for firewood; just to have something still alive close by. This tree and all the stumps are white metal. I bought them ages ago for some idea I had.

Image

The inside of the shelter is coming along. I figured my guy could use plywood (instead of metal - which required too many skills he didn't have) for the doorway so that's what I'm trying to show. The walk way is not attached yet since I want to weather the inside a bit more.

Image

Image

Image

The rest is just work on the ground. I'm slowly laying out where I want snow and mud and other stuff. An expected result of using CelluClay is that it shrinks away from the edges. I'll have to fix where it meets the wall with some gravel and snow. The upper level already has some stumps and a rock.

No idea!: I bought packages of trees and stumps a long time ago. They are un-primed white metal - the trees bend very easily. I also have several Lord of The Rings figures from the same period. That's what makes me think they were for board game dioramas. The stumps are all sizes and quite nice. If I come up with anything I'll let you know.

Awesome links! Yeah, I was thinking model RR or table top wargaming might be the way to go. The JTT armatures look promising.

Many thanks, DB! :cheers2:

Still on track! I had to let it dry out for several days to make sure the CelluClay was done shrinking. It pulled away from the 'concrete' as well as the edge of the base a bit so that will need attention.

Did you know that Ultimate Concrete wash works very well as concrete? I stippled in on and instant concrete wall! I'll add different shades of gray to give more color texture but it looks pretty good already.

Also, Ultimate Earth and Dark Dirt make great earth and dark dirt ground color! It soaks right into the base material and looks nice! There is more snow in the works as well as a few more details - a tree, at least one stump, and some grasses.

The upper level is almost done. Just some more snow (after the concrete is done). I've dry brushed the dirt and added some Golden Self Leveling Clear Gel to make muddy puddles. I'll use a lot more of that on the lower level, too.

Starting to place some more bits into the landscape. I'm going for a fairly clean but melted around the edges look to the snow. The milky color in some areas is the clear gel not dry yet.

Image

Image

Here is a curtain I'm trying to make for the inner door to the "lair". I've stiffened it up with some dilute white glue. It will attach to the inner side of the wood. I'm just drying it on the back side.

Image

And here is what the curtain looks like in place! The culvert and the dog are not glued in yet; since I still have work to do and I don't want them in the way.

I hope you noticed the muddy paw print trail leading to some yellow snow along the wall.

This will be my last post until the reveal.

The white filler around the wood is because my guy would have use caulking to keep out the wind. I'll dirty it up a bit once it's dry. As for the rest, a once over to find any horrors but otherwise I've hit my skill limit for dioramas.

Well, I finished on Sunday. I just have to clean up my photo area (because it's a flat surface and collects things) so I can post the reveal!
