You did absolutely fantastic with its rigging

I excepted a long rigging line nose to tower to tail…shows how little I know of German subs

That was an option; but, I showed it in the dive configuration... to do less rigging, lol.

What you do not see is the clear coat drying.

I put decals on the side I don't plan to display, to test how the paint reacted to the solution. It left some staining. Not a big deal, I can work with it to weather appropriately. However, it did make it a necessity to clear coat the display side.

I'll let this cure overnight and throw down the decals tomorrow. There is only like 4 decals per a side, so it should go quickly.

Alright, now that the interim model is complete. I can get back to the U-boat.

Got the last of the decals on! I've got the first layer of paint on the life rings too. Tomorrow I'll finish the life rings and mount them. Then an overall clear coat prior to weathering!

I'm thinking of using pigments and some dry brushing/stippling. Plus maybe a wash? Stipple with acrylic pencils? Spray some inks? There are just so many options.

It being displayed out of the water makes me want to weather a bit less than if it was afloat.

Found out that I missed two decals. The ones for the life ring. Or toilet seat of life?

The decals were whole, and they pieces have a mounting point on them. So, I very carefully cut the appropriate section out and placed them as two separate decals.

Whole decal can be seen here.

Here they are applied. My mat scale is in inches. They're tiny!

On the boat.

It's easy to over look some details at times, but I'm glad you did cause I now have a close up of coning tower. Absolutely marvelous molding in the world of kits today. We truly are living in the golden age of modeling.

Alright, started with the non-display side to test some weathering. I'm using a mixture of Ultimate Rust wash and Vallejo pigments. I'm going for a subtle, and not too over the top scheme.

Any pointers for boat weathering are more than welcome!

Here are the weathering products I'm using so far.

Come closer up shots, I'm teetering on the "Just a little bit more" vs "this is fine" in regards to weathering.

Next up is some chipping.

I am still trying to picture myself surviving floating with toilet seat around my neck in the North Atlantic 😱
What are those red domes on the deck? 🤔

I love the rust stain lines :thumb2:

I believe it is some sort of floats for a submarine rescue system. Like if it's laying on the bottom in shallower water. This is just my assumption and I think I remember reading something like that in the book that came with it.

Overall. One disaster. Used lacquer thinner on a q-tip to clean up a panel line. It ate the paint, lol. Sooo, in true navy fashion, the deck has a sorta off color part. Not a huge deal, I'm not even mad.

For weathering, I'm calling it done. I decided to just weather one side and leave the other clean. This will give me an option to show it clean, or revisit the weathering with a clean slate as my skills increase over the years.

Now I just have the base to finish up. And clean off the shelf it will occupy.

Thanks everyone! Being able to clean off the bench was nice. This is the cleanest it's been in months!

However, now I don't know what to build. I don't want to start anything that might be a GB next year. Sooo, another 109? Though the F-4 Phantom is calling to me.

Lovely build - congratulations. :cheers2:
I like the idea of only weathering one side to give display options. Gonna file that away for future reference!

Don't know if its of interest but Das Werke have released 2 sets of 3 crew figures for the U-9. A Bridge crew (DWK011) and a Deck crew (DWK012).

Aur0ra145-You did a really nice job on this. Congratulations! I love this kit and have two in my stash. This has always been one of my dream kits, so I was a very happy modeler when Das Werk announced they were releasing this. I hope it is successful enough so they can release more German WW1 submarines. Once again good job.
