I attach the dog tags to the track or axel of the vehicle to identify it at a future time when I have forgotten when I built it and what variant it is.

Not sure what you mean by "the base"?

but if you men something to put the model on, I don't put my kits on anything but a shelf, with the exception of figures, horese and other weird crap that needs a base to sit on and be attached to.
