What is it? New Competition.....

Post by Lee »

New competition for you guys.....

What is it?

Image

Basically, the winner is the person that guesses what is in the photo and what military vehicle/aircraft/ship it belongs to...

We will want the make, model and version of the military vehicle/aircraft/ship the pic belongs to, that is it. All you have to do is post what you think it is and we will look through them all at the end. Please don't over do it, just put what your guess is, nothing more.

The competition will run for two weeks ending at 9pm 23rd July 2013 and in the case of more than one person getting it right we will use a random number generator to decide the winner. If no one gets it right we will pick the nearest guess and if no one is near at all, then the prize will roll-over on to the next 'What is it?' competition. We will have a lot of these competitions in the future so, fear not if you don't win this time , this will be a regular thing :D

You can have as many guesses as you like, each one must be in a different post though :D

The prize this time will be.....

Image

The new tool Airfix 1/72 Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero

These competitions are sponsored by myself & Paul with the prizes being provided from our own stashes.....

Enjoy and let the guessing commence :D

Errr... looks like a jet engine's exhaust nozzle to me I think that I see an afterburner thingy in there so some sort of military or stunting craft maybe.
Planes aren't really my thing so I'm out of my league. Sorry.
I thought that I'd try anyway.

My guess on the Aircraft is the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23
What we are looking at I believe to be an Tumansky R-29-300 afterburner nozzle.

As to what specific variant of the Mig 23, I will punt and say the Mig-23MS Flobber B varient.

As OTHERS have already mentioned it is from the Mig 23 made by Mikoyan-Gurevich, known during the cold war as the Flogger-K. Could be the Mig 27 which is basically the Mig 23 but optimized for air-to-ground attack and export markets i.e different radar etc. . Just so all the bases are covered the engine is the Tumanskii R-27F2M-300 turbojet. . Good idea for a comp though, gets us all researching the interweb.

The propelling nozzle parts seem a lot smaller than an f15 or 16 or anything like that so I'm thinking Russian, the look of it I think it is a turmanski R 27,29 or 35

It was fitted to lots but the way it seems that the propelling nozzle isnt as exposed as some instilations leads me to agree with what others have said, a 'Flogger'.

So, with the hope of getting it right I'd say you are looking at the buisness end of a Turmanski R29 instilation in a Mig 23 S,M or U :D

Edit

Ah ...... just saw DC's post. Yea that.

I guess i posted too much info/ discussion although I basically just rephrased what UKscalemodeller had said :shhh: .

Perhaps some guidelines are in order for this type of competition, unless i missed them.

There's an awful lot of entries by people who seem to know what it is and I would only be guessing wildly (I thought it was a centrifuge for mixing test tubes!) so I'm not going to enter because I would feel awfully guilty if I won by dumb luck!
