[Trumpeter]-1/48-J-8B fighter

Post by Goose »

Hello all,

A first for me, a kit review of a nice looking chinese bird...look a this. I ike the box art, very dynamic

Image

A bit of history about the plane

Image

and once finished, it will give a quite big bird...look at the size of it once finished

Image

It comes in a big box, very hard as often with trumpeter, you feel thaht what's inside is well protected.

Let's begin, by the instructions:

they are in Black&White on a white recycled paper (not the greyish/yellowish revell's paper and nor as nice and neat as the glossy Eduard's leaflets). There are 15 pages, with on the cover a brief history of the plane then a sprue map, the differents building steps and on the last page a picture on what and where to put the fuel tanks or missiles and pods.

in the instructions, we also have the decals and the classical ads from trumpeter about what will come soon or a well sold item

Another thing I find clever is that they did separate the box in a 3/4-1/4 ratio the 3/4 is reserved for the sprues and the last fourth is for the tiny and very fragile parts like the canopy, the nose cone, the rear end, the ejection seat and the P/E fret.

and these tiny clear parts are to put on the front of the recognition pods, on the edge of wings etc

more to come...

now, let's see the srpues:

at first sight and first touch it's a very nicely molded plastic quite hard probably breakable if badly treated three big sprues with the half fuselages, the upper and lower wings the rest are more little sprues with details like cockpit tub, landing gear, wheel wells etc.

Image

more details to show how the parts are nicely modled and the details nicely done among all, the rivets. we all do know about trumpeter sickness of putting big rivets everywhere..here everything is really nice and in scale. Have a look

Image

Image

the cockpit tub, instrument panel and side walls are also very neat and clean.

Upper and lower wings+ details

the rudder

The sprues with the engines (badly detailed, but these will be hidden so..) the wheels and so on

Image

we also have four sprues 2 times the same) with all the ordnance fuel tanks, pods etc

just the two main

All in all and at first sight a very nice kit, that will be nice to build, now, if I had to give a quotation i would put a 8/10 on what's in the box and if i'm a beginner, but as i've already built some trumpeter kits, it could go down to a 6,5 or a 7/10 becoz of the decals and some fit issues i have already meet in my older builds.

See you guys.
