New improved Ultimate Dark Dirt wash

Post by Paul »

With the Airfix defiant ready for its panel line wash i thought it a great time to show you all the new and improved Ultimate Modelling Products Dark Dirt Wash, still clay based as with all the others, but this newer version is a lot darker and has much better coverage. It'll be hitting the shops in a couple of weeks.
Applied over a gloss coat, you can see how well it covers when applied with a flat brush and in the following pictures (click them theres a few) you can see how it looks, wet, dry and how easy it comes off with just a piece of moist kitchen paper and some cotton buds. It can also be airbrushed on as to can all the others. Theres is no simpler more effective way to quickly weather
The last pictures show it after a matt cote has been sprayed on to seal it in, you can see underneath were i purposely didn't gloss it as much as the upper surfaces allowing the wash to cling on a lot more giving a nice weathered look to the under surface.

Still wet

Shows how easy it still wipes off

Hi guys,

Looks like the best just keeps getting better

Quick question, (Paul, Lee, or anyone?) how does one recognise the latest "new improved" (Mk.3) formula, from the two earlier versions.

(Mk. 2 version had labels front and back, compared to original (Mk.1) 'front label only version', IIRC. But how do you tell a Mk.3 version from the Mk.2 ?

Also, any plans that the other colours in the Ultimate Weathering Wash range will change, or only the Dark Dirt?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Cheers, :cheers2:

Anything we sell at Ultimate retail.com will be the new version, as shops will still have the older version i don't know how you can sort that. The new version is a lot darker when you look in the bottle now

I really need to try the Ultimate products. Quick questions, If I'm not mistaken Mr Paul and Mr Lee owns the Ultimate but how did they make the formulas for the washes and thinners, how did they know what liquids to put in the wash to make it work? I know they are not a huge company so they don't have a factories or laboratories, or do they?

Sorry if my questions seem naive, I am just not too familiar with Ultimate products.

Just guessing here but i don't think they'll answer that one because that would give away the "secret" of the Ultimate products.... kinda like walking into a coca cola factory and asking about all the ingredients

Oh sorry maybe I phrased my sentence wrong, but I wasn't asking for the ingredients themselves. I was just wondering if they made the formula in their basement or did they hire someone else to do it.
