Tamiya 1/24 Peugeot 206 WRC 2000

Post by rodrant »

My entry in this Build , but will start it in some weeks , as now I'm a little busy with current builds , but curious to see how after all this years without building a 1/24 Tamiya kit will manage with the new techniques, I remember that I even do not do any Clear coat for decalling :-) , and no airbrush also , so will be good to build this ...well I know it is a Peugeot ... :-)

Image

will be noce to do a all Gloss Aluminium color rallye car !

Thank you Andy !Glad that you follow this build buddy ,

Hmmmm , I remember that on the Subaru Impreza that I make last century ... made some seat Belts made with Tamiya tape ,now I'm a pro :-) so I will try to find some PE Sparco Seatbelts , and they should be blue ...think I saw that made by Eduard ...also some mechanics around should be good ...oh boy , I'm getting ideas to do something cool here

I discover in my modelling stuff a Can of Tamiya TS-17 Gloss Aluminium , I bought it when I buy the kit , it is still wraped in the palstic , but it has so many years and went for some four home moves , getting hot and cold , do not know if this stuff is ok ... :wtf:

Image

Maybe it will explode or something

Nice choice the Peugeot 206 rally was my childhood fav. As for the spray can I could safely say it is still usable. I had one like that and it didnt blew up like a grenada..

I know , I was kidding , this can should be about 15 years or so in heat and cold and a lot of moves here in Portugal :-D

So time to make a start on this one ...

Image

usual sprue photos :

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Will use this aftermarket kits , about the brake discs not sure , as tamiya do the brakes and brake pads in one single piece , so I guess that I will not use them , yes for the seatbelts !

Also will use this Tamiya Mechanic set to do a small diorama of the Peugeot repair site in MonteCarlo Rallye .. :-)

Image

Image

Image

they have decals for two Peugeout versions and Subaru (Prodrive) Rallye team

Image

Image

SO I started , and this also come , some chrome plasticparts for the exaust end , Peugeot symbol on front capot , headlights interiors ...nice still the color do not convinvce me but will use it like this ...

Image

Image

so already mke a strat , sprayed TS-11 the bottom hull , and spray the exaust with Tamiya X-11 ( my first time using this paints in airbrush , thinned it with Mr.Color Rapid Thinner , specific for Mr-Color and spray beautifull , I suppose that tamiya isn't real acrylics , now I am sure !

Image

Both Diferentials now painted and ready to go on the undersurface of the car ! I already forgot on how many different mettalic colors we should us eon this car builds, think I use all Tamiya range on this first steps ,

Image

So , more to go maybe tomorrow ...

Some small update ...

So I now place all exhaust and differential on the chassis

Image

Time to do the shock absorbers and Brake discs ...I bought some PE discs , but to place them here I would have , or to cut them or to remove the brake pads ...neither option as Tamiya plastic has some nice detail and do want to make a not long build on this one ...

Image

I think after painted it has some very nice detail :-)

Image

Time to place the first decals (very small ...) on the brand of the Brakes ...Brembo it is the brand , well known in WRC :-)

Image

Front diferential with ecerything on place , also direction work :-)

Image

and on this side :-)

and for the Image

also on rear suspension and diferential all placed ...quick build , a lot of brush paint done ...

Image

so , we now turn it upside ...

Image

Time to place all the parefernalia of interior gadgets and accessories

Image

I place the bottom protections of the differentials , the parts were clear plastic, guess that you can place thm like that to see the differential details ...always painted them :-)

Image

SO littel by little small pieces painted and added ...

Image

Fire extinguishers ...funny stuff , and liked a lot all of this small details

Image

Image

Image

Image

Seats placed just to see , real nice after some paint on them

Image

Image

Today's work was decals, the seats begin very nice with the decals on them :-)

Image

Not so good the decals for the rear of theseats , depicting carbon fibre I think , hard to place ...but was pleased on how they turn to

Image

Real nice, now only miss the PE seatbelts

Image

The dash

Image

Really like the seats :-)

The fire extinguishers look great.
Nice work on the carbon fibre decals for the seats.
I made a bit of a mess of mine when I did them a while back. Tamiya decals are too thick and difficult to shape around the curves.

Thank you guys !

Really the decals ...The kit has two sheets of decals ...one the decals aren't bad , but the other ...I already mention this before and I'm not alone , Tamiya makes good kits , in some of their kits the decals are crap ! In this build so far I got all decals placed and no rip off or something ...

time to make the PE seat Belts , an after market from Eduard !

Image

Image

Image

Image

not easy ...easy are the cockpits from planes :-)

Image

I must palce this before I placed the roll bar safety cage glued , they are going to be fixed to the roll bar

Image

But already we can see the nice detail that this PE seatbelts bring to the model ! Nice!

Image

Image

MAke the spare wheel ...so much work with the decals and thi is going to be unseen the wheel has its face on the floor of the car :-)

Image

So PE placed and rool bar cage glued !

Image

Image

Image

Image

Todat placed the interior of the doors , has this device for the navigator

Image

And almost forgot to place this decals ...2 on each side, and not easy to place ...

Image

Image

And now the building fase that I was always afraid when I make this models ...a Big Glass ...a lot of paint detail in black ...and to spray the car body !

Image

must do the 'grill' also ...and paint the 206 logo in it ...

Image

MAsk the interior ...yeah ...right ...but we must have more masking ...

Image

Image

This is what I mention ...you mask in the interior and will paint interior Balck X-18 (semi gloss black ) , but what about the door windows :-)

Image

I can imagine airbrushing and all become with little black particules ...so mask On !

Image

The body ...

Image

Som edrills must be made in order to later fix the capot locks
Image

in the rear also

Image

Looking like a Peugeot now ...I had a girl friend that had one like this , well it was the 1.1 Lt motor ...

Image

Painted with spray TS-17 ...now I Paited it directly with spray with no Primer ...this Sparay has some reaction different than the others , maybe it is the color ...I only make small bursts and try to move along , if not you get a lot of paint excess ...think ot look ok , make two bursts and it is ok , I think , later after completly dry a coat of Gloss Clear coat and ready for decalling ...but first must do the detail paint work ...

Image

Image

Image

Image

The mesh with the 206 logo painted ...not bad I think ...

Image

Thank you ! Really making this little kit remind me that this 1/24 series from Tamiya makes a wonderful collection , such nice model kits !

Now I make some more slow progress

Finish making the wheels ,the rear wing and paint the rear lights on the sprue with X-27 Clear Red

Image

also some more painting ...X-11 Chrome Silver on the rear optics and in the exhaust end

Image

Also paint with X-18 the interior of the clear part

Image

Try to paint this very carefully as some outside galss was with no masking tape , a little difficult step if you using airbrush ...but better finish that using brush that is for sure

Image

Image

It works and went ok this step of the build :-)

Image

Shinny parts 8-)

Image

Buffer and Peugeot brand symbol ...nice !

Image

Not so shinny picture ...has also the locks of the engine capot (does this word exist in english and it is the correct term ? :-) )and for the rear panel of the car and the interior of the Front Lights !

Image

the whippers , LoL I do not the English terms of this car stuff : placed in the front windshield !

Image

Now I glue the mesh in the front of the body , and looks nice , not perfect , but nice those painted 206 logo :-)

Image

Headlights placed , and now it is looking like a Car !

Image

Attached the rear wing

Image

and now it is time to start decal work ...not as many as a modern Day Jet sencils :-) , but still a lot of work , and Tamiya decals are always a surprise to the modeller , and I already mention that one of the decal sheet I'm using are 'mean' ones ...let's see how it will be the face to face , to my help Mr Hobby Softner !!!

Also still some paint details in top of the body , and then will make a start on those mechanics ...

Absolutely fabulous
You are doing a super job :thumb1: :th: :thumb2:

For a real stubborn decal, I put a little Tamiya X20 on it......it softens, wrinkles and then sets down nicely if left alone
This is a very entertaining build thread

Time to do a final update on the car build , still have the mechanic set to do ... :-)

Decals and finishing the details ...

Image

This white decals are ...well I will not tell the name , after I rip one , and after several minutes in tepid water they are thick ...very thick ...also some of the decals had a lot of glue so almost impossible to remove them unless they were in tepid water for a long time ...

Image

A mistake ...I placed this decal in windshield , but before I should have placed one with a silver stripe ...still manage to save all this :-)

Image

Finish the wheels and all decalling

Image

Only now missing are some aerials and some white disc yo go betwene the numbers

Image

With all this I manage to lost one of the back door clamps and misteriously gone one of the fron tyre 'Michelin' decals/adhesives

Again Tamiya decals are awfull ...did the best I can :-)

Image

Image

Image

Some photos of the finished 206 WRC 2000 Rallye car :

THank you guys , I now am doing a little stop on this build before I make the mechanics team ! ...this rallye was on winter time , and for the images that I saw a lot of cold ...so cold that this Peugeot (actually three of them ...) can't make a start on the second round after a very cold night ... the mechanics are a little summer fashion :-) , so I maybe consider this finished ...or try to make some winter jacket , at least for the pilot :-)
