Ok I'm trying to find scale motorsport 1/24 Carbon Fiber Twill Weave Black 1024 and I can't find it anywhere in Aus. If I buy from the USA it cost a SHED LOAD in shipping so not practical.

Can anybody help me source it at a reasonable price?

Cheers

My next problem is paint. I can't get Zero paints here in Australia as there isn't a distributor here and Hiroboy won't ship them to me.

If I paint it "Papaya orange" I'll need the correct paint for it. Maybe I'll just paint it the gloss black pre season livery......

hmmm

Find something close in colour from a nearby source or custom mix one up for airbrushing..... it will be fine even if it is a spray can
I am ignoring that HiroBoy ships Zeros to Canada so I don't blow my entire workshop budget on paint

Guys I've noticed that chassis 27R in the photo in the first post has some differences around the roof mounted scoop, front wing, box in front of the front wheels and side skirts.

These are not included in my kit so I'm wondering if these have been put on the real car sometime in it's life? I can't find any info on any changes if there were some.

Hmmmmm :scratch::

They are polarising but also kind of retro cool, plus in black it looks pretty mean.

Well I made a start on the kit today.

First some priming using Badgers Stynylez grey primer. OMG is is SO much better than the AK Interactive primer I struggled to use.

Image

Then painted with a mix of Mr Hobby black gloss (H2) and Mr hobby Steel (H18)

Image

I'm having a play with the brakes. I'm not using these as I'm waiting for the photo etch ones however I thought I'd see how these can come up out of the box. Primed below.

Image

Then painted with Mr Hobby Mr Metal Iron. Before and after polishing. This is such a cool product and very realistic! Next I'll detail the hub and caliper.

Image

Then I tried my new AK Interactive Xtreme Metal paints. Very easy to use with an excellent finish. I primed, then painted the radiators with Aluminium then applied a pin wash using Tamiya Panel Liner to bring out the details. Before and after the wash below.

Image

I'm having great fun so far

Holy Cow, that is some smooth painting work  :thumb2:
I wouldn't sell yourself short in the skill department
Little tip: When you paint the body, leave it alone for a week and let it cure so you don't get finger prints and dings...ask me how I know

G'Day again fellas,

I've done a little more tonight after work. I repaired the engine injector pin marks which would show once assembled. There were two of them, one on each side. I used Vallejo plastic putty applied with a tooth pic and then leveled with my hobby knife before it set, then sanded smooth.

Image

Then engine has been assembled ready for priming. I've not glued the rocker covers on as they will be covered in carbon fibre.

Image

The discs are now finished. I've taken a couple of pics to show what they look like as well the the Mr Metal paints I used.

Till next time lads :cheers2:

A bit more done today.

A few parts primed ready to paint. The engine has been painted with AK XTreme Metal Dark Aluminium.

One wheel assembled....looks pretty good.

I've done a little bit more on the F1. I've applyed Carbon Fibre decals to one of the Cam covers, the other is yet to be done. I've also finished the rear sub frame assembly. The decals are a right pain in the bum to apply with multiple applications of Micro Sol and set required. I'm dreading doing the whole car in carbon Fibre

The engine extractors were painted with Ak Interactive X-Treme Metal Titanium.

Thanks chief,

These came in the kit as standard. They are on a small sheet, made by Scale Motorsport, and are for the engine only.

You didn't get them with your kit? I also do NOT have any BMW Motorsport decals to go on my rocker covers which I thought I'd have :

A bit of fun pre assembling the engine to see how it's coming together. Carbon fiber still needed on some parts.

Hi guys,

Not much of an update. I've just been plodding along applying the carbon fiber decals. I have to measure and trace out using Tamiya tape or grease proof paper and then cut out of the sheet by hand. Holy smokes she's a long drawn out process! I've now completed the other engine side wall as well as the air intakes and the carbon around the intake manifold. It's looking bloody good I reckon :D

I must say the more I'm applying the better I'm getting at it although I'm fast running out of Scale Motorsport decal. When I bought the packet I didn't know it only had one in the pack! I need about 4 sheets with the only place to get them from being Hiroboy in the UK (I'm in Australia).

Please excuse the exhaust not fitting on properly, it's just there so I could get an appreciation for what I'm doing ;)

The carbon intake manifold (between the intakes and the inlet pipes, the carbon pattern goes against the others, it's a thin part).
