Tamiya 1:48 F-16C/N "Aggressor/Adversary"

Post by RoscoRSA »

Hi all, so this is going to be my entry for this SiG.

I will be building the Tamiya F-16C/N "Aggressor/Adversary" in the F-16C Block 32 Scheme.

So here are the obligatory  Sprue shots

So as always, I started with the Cockpit tub

Followed by the main landing gear well

All painted up (for now)
Image

By the end of the day I managed to get the majority big parts glued together.

All in all this is turning out to be one (if not the) best fitting models I have ever built, I am really wondering if I will even need any filler but only time will tell.

So I finally go a chance to get back into this model. Here is a small update.

I started by adding some main landing gear bay things I missed.
Image

I then painted and built up the front gear bay / intake
Image

Next up was the exhaust tip
Image
This was my first attempt at fine detail masking and I have to say this "new" flexible tape from Tamiya is a godsend

Image

Tomorrows update will be allot bigger, hopefully I should have the cockpit done and at least one of the colors on the main body done.

Thanks Paul.

Now on to the update.

I started off with completing the cockpit, and masking the glass.

I have a small confession to make though, the main cockpit glass has a VERY noticeable seam line that I am not removing.... because I cant.... I dont trust myself... so its staying..... for now...:

I then proceeded to temporarily fix the front engine intake section and rear landing bay doors for painting
Image

I then did some mild pre-shading (in hindsight this may have been unnecessary but hey, it was good practice)
Image
Image

On to the first color
Image

Masking and the second
Image

Masking and the third
Image

After masking and spraying the nose it was ting to unmask and reveal (all my mistakes, kidding there was only one glaring one.... :wall: )
Image
Oh but that green tho, sometimes Tamiya paints just go down soo beautifully
Image
Image
And there she is, I dont know, I may keep it, as a reminder, to mask twice and paint once

Then it was temporary dissassembly and prep for final assembly
Image

Next up will be building the landing gear, seat, ordinance, perhaps the pilot (not sure though) and then clear coat and decals. Next weekend will be busy if I want to finish this in time.

I'm in the final stretch now. I managed to get the decals all put on. I did make a few mistakes with some of the smaller ones but for the most part these Tamiya decals went down like a dream (except for the few that tore in my haste, six hours of decals can make a guy move faster than he should)

Image
The ordinance all look pretty good, one of the blue stripes tore but I think I may have fixed it enough that only I will be able to tell whioch one it is.

Image
Image
As of right now I just have to do the final bit of detail painting, clear and unmask, seat install and glass mounting.

By the end of tomorrow I should be done with this one.
