Airfix Ford Fiesta RS WRC 1/32 (The Black Version)

Post by RummagingTurtle »

This is going to be a full build upload in one go. I just recently got a new job and it is keeping me very busy so haven't had much time to model let alone keep a build thread interesting so I decided to photograph as I went and then spend one of my days off doing the whole build thread in one go.

Sorry if this is not alright.

I decided I wanted to enter my first build and decided as I'm still an amateur to do a rally car with loads of decals : and I went with This Airfix Fiesta. I was planning on doing a diorama rally scene but I think i'll leave it this time. I want to start on my Tamiya Bike, again for this build

This is a nice shoot of the kit, decals, instruction, and all that jazz.

Image

Spure shot.... the spures where really nice, ok amount of detail, very little flash etc.

Image

The shell... this was really nice great detail, no flash, no ejection pin marks. Very impressed.

Image

A couple of the page from the instruction sheet. Nice simple build.

Image
Image

The decals looked great as well. This was looking like a great kit, considering it was an Airfix starter kit.

Image

Lets get on with the build. The build was going well but there were a couple of issues. Number one being the fact that one of the wheel arches was about a mile out. a bit of milliput and I'll sort that right out.

Image

The body also had a crack. Bit of extra thin to fix that.

Image

and then I lost one of the roof anteena's (the rug monster got it) so had to fill in the hole this time with Perfect Plastic putty.

Image

oh and I almost forgot about the fact that I stuck on the spoiler before the lights which caused proper issue's near the end of the build with getting them in place. I had to trim the spoiler abit.

So quite a few issues.

Body ready for priming.

Image

again I messed up I should have left the antenna's off until the end because I ended up breaking them during the build.

A nice kit, was one of the first cars I ever build!!! It's a pity the tyres in plastic with no details at all... Besides that it's a fun little kit to build and those decals will be trully a challenge. I'm not sure if it was a good move to fix the antennas and rooftop bits, as far as I can remember the rooftop decal occupies the whole rooftop and must be applied before fixing the roof bits and antennas...
Anyway, good luck with the build, hope it all comes out well!!! :cheers2:

I got everything built and ready for priming.

Image

Thought I'd add a bit of detail so stripped an old broken USB cable and used a decal from an Airfix Sherman tank. I weathered the inside with a bit of Vallejo Burnt Umber Pigment. Literally a quick dusting, you can't see much of the inside but I know what I did.

Image

Next I added the roll cage and the harnesses; one of the belts snapped. This kit was beginning to annoy me with all the issues.

Image

I did a quick dry fit of the shell and chassis and it seemed alright. You can see I haven't broken the aerials yet.

Image

The clear parts being glued in place. They had nice overlaps which made the position and gluing easier.

Image

The wheels. Painted by hand no masking. I find it so relaxing painting by hand.

Image

Just getting ready for an epic decal sess. It took me 4 hours this afternoon. The first time I had used micro set/sol and I love it. I had been using Revell's decal fix which is also pretty good.

Image

This was the hardest decal to get to set in place. I think I did an alright job with the decals and am actually looking forward to my next big decal sess. It was a nice relaxing afternoon.

Image.

Final Reveal will be added shortly

Hi Ric.

I wish I had put the body details on after, I just thought i'd save some time and complete the chassis and extra's and then prime/paint in one go. I know for the next time.

I bought the Mini Countryman Kit for like 9 quid so will be trying again. I think the decals came out alright I really did love the micro set/sol.

Happy Modelling
